This Monday, let's embrace the spirit of the 16th day of Christmas - '16 maids a-milking' - as a metaphor for nurturing and empowering our community. Just as those maids provided sustenance, let us nourish the talents and aspirations of Black professionals in Australia. Remember, our collective success is intertwined. By investing in each other, we not only uplift individuals but strengthen the entire Black professional community in Australia. Together, let's build a supportive network where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. The Story Behind Black Global Trust (BGT) The journey of Black Global Trust began with a powerful call to action. The tragic murder of George Floyd exposed deep systemic inequalities and underscored the urgent need for impactful change within Black communities. From this pivotal moment came the inspiration to establish BGT, with a clear mission: to shift the flow of capital into Black communities, empowering self-determination and fostering lasting progress. What started as an initiative to direct resources into these communities has grown into something much bigger. BGT is a comprehensive online hub that connects Black entrepreneurs to the vital resources they need, with a strong emphasis on access to capital. Our goal? When someone asks, “Where can I find the best network of Black investors and entrepreneurs?”, we want the answer to be Black Global Trust. #BlackGlobalTrust #BlackBusinesses #InclusiveGrowth #SocialImpact #Empowerment #InvestInChange

USBC Hill Day served as a powerful demonstration of the organization’s ongoing commitment to economic empowerment and policy advocacy. The event aimed to achieve three primary objectives: 1. Raise Awareness: USBC leaders sought to enhance congressional members' awareness of the existence and impact of U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. affiliates within their respective districts. These discussions focused on the social and economic contributions of member companies, highlighting their vital role in local communities. 2. Educate on Current Issues: The meetings provided an essential platform to inform congressional members and their staff about the pressing issues affecting the minority business community at both national and local levels. USBC representatives outlined the challenges faced by Black businesses and the broader implications for economic equity. 3. Request Legislative Action: USBC leaders advocated for specific actions to support local minority businesses. These requests included cosponsoring legislation, sending letters of concern, making floor statements, holding field hearings, and requesting committee hearings on relevant issues. What just happened to Fearless Fund is deeply concerning for DEIA practitioners and the mission of creating pathways for black people to access capital in their businesses and wealth for their families. This situation highlights the persistent efforts by some individuals—primarily those who are white and privileged—to hinder the progress of Black communities in accessing capital. For those committed to advancing DEIA, it is crucial to reconsider our strategies. Universities are already experiencing varied impacts, with some suffering setbacks while others may quietly celebrate the obstacles to progress. Similarly, several companies, many of which previously engaged in DEIA efforts only under public pressure, are now re-evaluating their investment in initiatives designed to diversify their workforces and leadership. The challenges ahead are significant. It is imperative to develop strategic approaches to continue addressing these critical issues and ensure that the progress toward equity and inclusion is not thwarted.
