It is always a gift to hear an extraordinary leader share the motivation and focus it takes to drive success. Bitterroot Bio’s CEO, Pavan Cheruvu, shared his inspiring journey, with a learned and critical focus on talent and culture, on the Biotech 2050 podcast. What struck us the most is Pavan’s deep sense of responsibility, and keeping a keen eye on the north star of what we are working to accomplish. Now more than ever, it’s important for us to listen to leaders who remind us that with the right blend of scientific assets, mission driven team, supportive investors and a positive and dynamic company culture we have the opportunity to transform lives in life sciences. A few months back I was driving home listening to a podcast and it resonated so strongly that I pulled over and called members of the Immunitas Therapeutics executive team to ask them to listen to it. The podcast was a Slate Magazine #PoliticalGabfestReads episode in which John Dickerson interviewed Brad Stulberg about his new book #MasterofChange. Podcast link at bottom. Many of the personal themes of the book can also apply to companies and teams. Those early conversations from my car grew into a robust offsite discussion; our full exec team listened to the podcast and then talked through a discussion guide, attached here. #Change is constantly happening to and around us. Our team started to list how many “major life changes” the company has been through since we were founded in 2019, both positive and challenging. We easily jotted down 22+ (#startup 😁). On the positive side, we started dosing our novel therapy in cancer patients in the clinic, nominated new programs, raised venture funding, and hired key executives, among many others. The changes aren't stopping anytime soon. We are constantly growing the depth of our #science and the #expertise of our people, and the external world will continue to shift. The podcast and attached team discussion guide are applicable to a variety of industries, management levels, and companies. Please feel welcome to share and use. The podcast takes about 30min to listen to. One of the most fascinating aspects of the discussion was what we learned about each other's backgrounds, professional experience, and values, in addition to having a significant strategic discussion about thriving in an evolving world. Thanks to Char Gross and Lynette Herscha for editorial feedback and the Immunitas Therapeutics exec team for bringing their thoughtfulness, insights, and openness to the discussion. Ditto to John Dickerson #EmilyBazelon and David Plotz for a great podcast series. #thrive #evolve #teambuilding #strategy Podcast Link: https://lnkd.in/gdXfRmYB

Dr. Na-Ri Oh and I are thrilled to announce our latest podcast episode featuring the incredible Dr. Laura Sicola, a master communicator and influencer with over two decades of experience in transforming top-level executives into confident, inspiring leaders. This episode is packed with invaluable insights that can help you elevate your communication skills and break through the linguistic glass ceiling. You can listen to the episode here: pod.link/1720574866 Three key takeaways from our conversation with Dr. Sicola: Understand Your Audience's Needs: Dr. Sicola emphasizes that all audiences, whether it's one person on a phone call or a room full of executives, are tuned into the same radio station: WIFM (What's In It For Me?). Your audience is primarily concerned with how your message is relevant to them. They want to know how they can use the information you're providing to do their job better. So, always tailor your communication to address their needs and concerns. Balance Content and Delivery: It's not just about what you say, but how you say it. Dr. Sicola debunks the myth that one is more important than the other. Great content with poor delivery is like dipping a pearl in mud, while great delivery with poor content is like putting lipstick on a pig. Excelling in one area can't make up for a deficit in the other area. Make sure your content is clear, relevant, and well-structured, and deliver it with confidence, authority, and authenticity. Proactive Self-Assessment and Feedback: One of the fastest ways to improve your communication skills is to record yourself. Whether it's a video or audio recording, reviewing your performance can provide immediate and clear insights into what did or didn't work. Additionally, seek feedback from trusted peers or mentors. Ask them specific questions about your strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. This proactive approach can help you identify blind spots and areas for growth. Dr. Sicola's expertise in cognitive linguistics and her practical advice on effective communication are game-changers for anyone looking to advance their career. Whether you're preparing for an executive presentation or looking to improve your everyday interactions, this episode is something we can all learn from. #RealPharmaPodcast #ExecutiveCommunication #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #CommunicationSkills #CareerGrowth #PharmaIndustry Best, Ian
