If you are in real estate in Central Ohio there was a lot to celebrate this week: 1) A globally recognized manufacturing project, receiving federal support & securing a major new partnership, which brought renewed confidence to a generational opportunity. 2) A leading global employer declaring that culture is not a birthright- its something that need to be worked at & that the office plays a part in strengthening a company’s culture. 3)The Fed cutting it’s rate by half a point-calming some of the major headwinds facing developers & creating momentum to get back to building. And last but not least- the opening of Butcher & Rose for lunch service-which based on today’s attendance will be one of THE spot for a “downtown power lunch”. The future is bright!

Hard to think of a more rewarding thing as a manager than promoting your team. Hard to think of an easier decision than promoting Jethro Cohen. If you are a founder...you must know Jethro! When he reaches out, you are ignoring him at your peril. He is passionate about what he does. He loves the job and loves helping those around him. He builds outstanding relationships and networks that he uses to help founders - whether we've invested or not. And when we do, he goes super deep and will run through walls to help you out. He's no just a people person though - he is smart, insightful and will give great direction on key strategic issues you are facing. It's no wonder he has such respect and admiration from founders and other investors in the ecosystem. Noone is perfect though, so buyer beware: he has the worst taste in icecream possibly ever. He staked his career on a certain flavour. Lucky he's bloody good at his job, because he lost that bet but we kept him anyway. Jethro Cohen - there's no stopping what you can do. I look forward to watching you develop into a future leader at Square Peg and across the industry more broadly!

🐣 SoSquared has flown the nest 🐥 After two years in Exchange at Department 's shared space we've moved up to the 4th floor, where the air is crisp. Shared spaces are definitely the best option for those early days, but timing when to transition can be difficult; here's what we considered: ➕ Cohesion - having your own space fosters a strong sense of belonging and unity, making everyone feel more connected. In general it's just more enjoyable coming to the office. ➕ Focus - no more competing for a quiet corner or having meetings in open, noisy spaces. ➕ Whilst we're sharing with another company, we're still able to create our own work atmosphere and tailor the space to everyone's needs, increasing productivity (hopefully). ➕ Somewhere to bring clients - Bringing clients to a space which is ours leaves a much better impression. Think about the difference between taking someone back to your house, or your parents... ➖ Increased cost - shared spaces are always going to be cheaper, especially if you're on an incubator or accelerator programme (A good half-way house is sharing with another company). ➖ Isolation - you meet a lot of other companies in a shared space, which can help with ideation and networking, particularly in those early days. ➖ Flexibility - In a shared space you can always add or remove seats as needed. Dedicated offices get out-grown. We're loving having our own space, but curious whether others have found the same pressure to change, or found shared spaces working for them. A major milestone and an annual discipline. Milestone: Heading home this week to see a new @RoomReady building. We bought land. Broke ground. Poured a foundation. For us. Our floor plan. Our Layout. Built for our strategy. Pumped! Annual Discipline: Headed to an offsite retreat for our Executive team. 2 days focusing on the businesss. What’s working? Where did we win? Where did we lose? What’s not working? What are next years goals? What do we need to stop doing? How can we leverage our strengths to build? Super exciting week ahead. Future is bright!

Many are feeling uneasy about the current entertainment industry trends. Opening weekends are weak despite great films coming out. The good news is, beyond the domestic box office opening weekend, which is a VERY narrow metric, we’re seeing earnings distributed more broadly: 1. Time: Revenue is spread over several weeks rather than a single big opening weekend. This used to be the case before the 2000s - people are more cautious about the films they see in theaters but as word of mouth picks up, so does the box office. 2. Verticals: Merchandising is increasingly significant with titles. 3. Geography: International box offices are becoming more crucial. No business is static, especially in entertainment. It’s an evolving landscape with diverse revenue streams. Hollywood is in a transition period and they’re finding their groove but films and theaters have a long life ahead of them.

9 Things I hate about working at Authentic: 1. Every last one of my team members is ridiculously talented, my jaw hurts from constantly dropping it when I peak at projects in our dropbox. Authentic sent us to Boston for our company retreat and the Corporate Cup, I’m getting blown up by hockey recruiters begging me to join their relay team for next year. (Because I’m so athletic at hockey relays) 4. Anytime someone asks me "so how's the new job?" I accidentally talk their ear off because leadership empowers you to make an impact from day one. 5. The team is dangerously good at Music League and now my work playlists are too good and my airpods keep dying midday. 6. The topics I get to write about for Transforming Cities are so interesting and relevant that I'm constantly pointing out real world examples in the car to friends and family. Now Kevin knows more about on-site activation than he ever thought he would. 🙃 7. Weekends don't hit the same anymore because I have work/life balance all week. 8. I can't relate to memes about hating work. 9. Everyone keeps asking me if we're hiring! Who can relate? 🤔
