🧠 ThinkLab Thursday #30 - America 🧠 Where can you find a city stuck in a perpetual state of stable chaos? There are probably many examples, but for me the top of the list would have to be New York City. I visited for the first time and it really did live up and perhaps even exceeded expectations. Of course there are many tourist sites but in my standard fashion, I tried to seek out locals and tap into their knowledge of the area and introduce me to the hidden gems of the city. I achieved this personal mission, and my blog takes you through one of my many adventures in this glorious city. 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗢𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗬𝗖, 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 The Article's Key Takeaways and Opportunities: 1️⃣ The Importance of Balance and Respite: The stark contrast between the frenetic pace of New York City and the tranquil oasis of Central Park emphasizes the need for balance in our lives. In any high-pressure environment, it's crucial to find opportunities for relaxation and rejuvenation. 2️⃣ The Value of Green Spaces: Central Park's role as a public space and its positive impact on both individuals and the city's economy highlight the importance of green spaces in urban areas. Incorporating natural elements into workplaces and communities can enhance well-being and productivity. 3️⃣ The Hidden Dangers of Urban Environments: The article underscores the need to be aware of hidden dangers, such as excessive sun exposure, even in seemingly safe environments like parks. It's essential to take precautions and promote public health initiatives to protect individuals from these risks. --- If you're not Australian, do you also Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide? Have you ever noticed how small conveniences can make a big difference? That’s something I’ve been reflecting on lately as part of DUMO Valet. We’re in the business of valet trash service—not exactly a glamorous field, but one that transforms daily life for residents in multi-family communities. It’s more than just taking out the trash (literally). It’s about offering a little extra ease at the end of a long day, creating cleaner spaces, and contributing to communities that people are proud to call home. I love seeing the ripple effects of what we do—residents feeling cared for, properties looking their best, and even a few smiles when someone realizes they’ll never have to wrestle with a heavy trash bag again. Curious—what’s a small service or convenience that’s made your life easier lately? Let’s talk about those little things that add up in a big way. #CommunityLiving #SmallThingsBigImpact #ValetTrashService #propertymanagers #valettrash #doorsteptrashpickup #valetliving #dumovalet

Have you ever wondered what the stairway between the balcony of 100k foot leadership and the dance floor of in-the-trenches service looks like? I found that stairway at the recent Sutter Health Management Meeting in San Francisco’s Chase Center. This pathway is paved in values, the Sutter Health values. Walking up the stairs to get a better vantage point requires curiosity, a mindset that asks questions about the view. Going up these stairs also takes the drive for excellence, knowing that high-level observation is necessary to orient, decide, and then act. And finally, that climb requires the value of integrity because climbing is not always easy, but it is the right thing to do for the team. And it is for the team, that leaders come down to the dance floor, to work shoulder-to-shoulder through all the obstacles, valleys, and mountains. That value of teamwork makes the dance beautiful, especially when all the dancers are bound by the same purpose. That purpose of providing care for each other and for all neighbors. On the dance floor, we remind ourselves that the care we give means nothing without the values of both inclusion and compassion. We dance for our patients; we dance for each other. We dance together with compassion; we dance together with love. #TeamSutter #SutterProud

Nature has the answers. “Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.” – Albert Einstein. Most of my work at the keyboard and on the phone gets done in the conservatory. It’s a great environment to work in, naturally well lit with a view of the garden. Sometimes though, there is too much light. Yes, I know it’s a first world problem but when you are struggling to read things on a screen, too much reflective sunlight reduces productivity. I wrestled with over a few weeks to find a solution - maybe a few extra blinds on the windows or a plastic film on the glass would help. Hmm, I wasn’t sure. Fortunately, during my dithering, nature came to the rescue, in the form of a very fast-growing passion flower plant, which out of nowhere spread its light filtering foliage up and over my workspace. Job done with a natural and cost-effective (ie free) solution. Oh, and the flowers are beautiful too! Now, while on the subject of flowers, did you know that bees can help us with innovation? They might even have been the driver behind Google’s strategy of encouraging employees to spend 20% of their working time on new projects. Here’s a fascinating video from Rory Sutherland about bees and their waggle dance. https://lnkd.in/eAbR32pe “If you’re not failing every now and again, it’s a sign you’re not doing anything very innovative.” – Woody Allen. Thank you for reading. Enjoy your day! #Innovation
