Meet Apasra Bootsingkorn (Pop), Academic Assistant at BFITS Thailand 🇹🇭 Pop’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education—not just through sharing knowledge but also by fostering understanding and open communication. With a background in translation and private tutoring, she has always believed that knowledge is not meant to be kept to oneself but shared to inspire and empower others. Her passion for English literature has helped her create meaningful learning experiences for students, tailoring her teaching to their unique interests and needs. What sets Pop apart is her belief that education isn’t just about academic skills—it’s about emotional growth, too. She has learned through her experience that emotions, like knowledge, should never be ignored or suppressed. Instead, they should be discussed openly to build trust and understanding. By creating a safe space for students to share their thoughts and feelings, Pop ensures they feel supported not just as learners but as individuals. This philosophy helps her connect with students on a deeper level, fostering curiosity, empathy, and growth. At BFITS, Pop continues to embrace challenges as opportunities for learning. She strengthens her skills in math, science, and computers while using her strengths in translation, class planning, and collaboration to create an inclusive environment where students feel encouraged to share their knowledge and express themselves without fear of judgment. Her story reminds us that true education is about more than just facts—it’s about understanding, connection, and creating spaces where everyone can grow together. Pop’s journey inspires us to not only share what we know but also to listen, support, and uplift those around us. Let’s build a world where learning and understanding go hand in hand, creating an environment where future generations can thrive 🌟

I am a staunch advocate for #creativity in teaching, particularly in the realm of English education. It's crucial that we instill a love for learning and literature in our students, who share a passion for #literature and #language, aiming to foster high student achievement and develop globally minded citizens. This sentiment resonates with my views on the recent article from The Guardian "The Guardian view on English lessons: make classrooms more creative again." The decline in student engagement with English studies in national schools in England is concerning, perhaps stemming from the overly prescriptive nature of current educational reforms. The emphasis on ambitious vocabulary and punctuation, while important, often comes at the expense of nurturing #imagination, #storytelling, and #interpretation—the very essence of the #transformative power of literature in education - particularly in Secondary English teaching. In our international school context at Bangkok Patana School, our Key Stage 3 English #curriculum offers every classroom teacher autonomy to choose a range of texts, text types, and formative/summative written tasks that match their students' interests, passions, and also mirror the educators' own specialist knowledge and interests, while ensuring coverage of a diverse range of times, places, cultures, and genders. This freedom, trust, capitalisation of teaching expertise, and ownership are absolutely the foundation of a creative and contemporary curriculum that promotes critical and meaningful engagement with texts, whilst empowering students to become #visionary thinkers. As we navigate the challenges facing education today, it's imperative that we advocate for a curriculum that values creativity and critical thinking in ways that are relatable to students' own lives and diverse cultures. By continuously reevaluating English education, we can ensure that our students are equipped not only with academic skills but also with a #lifelong love for #learning and literature. Let's make classrooms more creative, inspiring the next generation of thinkers, writers, and confident communicators. ❓What strategies have you found effective in fostering creativity and critical thinking in your English classrooms? How do you think we can make classrooms more creative? #EnglishEducation #CreativityInTeaching #Literature #CriticalThinking #EducationReform

Does Your Learner Really Care About English? 🤔 I’ve been reflecting on the thought-provoking point that Yohann Brultey, Ph.D. made recently. In my experience, most of the learners I work with don’t come to me because they love English. They come because they need it—whether it’s to keep their job, move up in their career, pass an exam, or get into that dream university program. For them, learning English is a tool, not a passion. And honestly, I can’t blame them. As educators, we can sometimes get caught up in our own love for the language, forgetting that for our learners, English is often just a stepping stone to something bigger. It's not about mastering grammar for the sake of it, but about opening doors to opportunities. This realization has reminded me of the responsibility we have: To make English relevant, accessible, and engaging for those who might not see it as anything more than a necessary skill. It's not enough to simply teach vocabulary and grammar; we need to make sure learners understand why they’re learning, and how it directly supports their goals. At the end of the day, it's not about us loving English—it’s about our learners feeling empowered to use it in their everyday lives. So, I’m curious: How do your learners feel about English? Have you ever asked them what drives their language learning, and what challenges they face in the process? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Let’s connect and share insights on how we can make learning more meaningful and motivating for our students. ✨ #LanguageLearning #Motivation #TeachingEnglish #Education #TESOL

💁♂️ THE Counsellor #gpa #languagelearning #counselling As a specialist in education and student development, I believe that there are three key factors that play a crucial role in helping students achieve their highest performance: GPA, language learning, and counselling. Each of these components serves a unique purpose and when integrated effectively, can greatly enhance a student's academic success. GPA, or Grade Point Average, is a measure of a student's academic achievement based on their grades. It provides valuable insight into a student's overall performance and can be used as a benchmark to track progress and set academic goals. By maintaining a high GPA, students demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence and increase their chances of success in future endeavors. Language learning is another important aspect of a student's education that can significantly impact their academic performance. Proficiency in multiple languages not only enhances communication skills but also opens up a world of opportunities in an increasingly globalized society. By studying languages, students can broaden their cultural understanding, improve cognitive abilities, and enhance their overall academic performance. Counselling is a critical component in supporting students' academic success by providing guidance, support, and resources to help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. A skilled counsellor can help students navigate academic, social, and emotional obstacles, and develop strategies to improve their academic performance. By seeking counselling support, students can learn valuable coping skills, build resilience, and ultimately achieve their academic goals. To maximize the impact of these three key factors, I propose the implementation of a personalized learning program from middle years to high school that focuses on result tracking and guidance from a trained counsellor. This program would involve regular monitoring of students' GPA, language learning progress, and overall academic performance, as well as ongoing counselling sessions to address any challenges or barriers to success. By tracking results and providing personalized guidance, the counsellor can offer individualized support and tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of each student. This holistic approach to student development ensures that students receive the support and resources they need to thrive academically and reach their highest potential. References: 1. Literacy development through content knowledge for English Language Learners (and even mainstream students), is a must, and an old, yet current, wisdom. Chamot, Echevarría, Walqui, and my dissertation, among other sources, have disseminated proven wisdom in this area. Thanks for sharing, Maria.
"This study shows how important it is to provide equitable opportunities for English-learners to build knowledge in science and history, and to apply that knowledge through informational texts alongside their peers," Relyea said. "What we found was that when English-learners have access to content-rich literacy instruction, they develop content knowledge as well as language, reading comprehension, and writing skills."
