This Mental Health Awareness Month, I find myself reflecting deeply on the journey of supporting loved ones and navigating the challenges they experience with mental illness. Supporting someone with mental health struggles is a path filled with both heartache and hope, and it's a journey that has profoundly changed me. This year, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is championing the Take the Moment campaign. This initiative resonates deeply with me, as it emphasizes the importance of taking the time to foster open dialogues, cultivate empathy, and build a deeper understanding of mental health. In honor of this campaign, I encourage all of you to join us. Let’s take a moment to listen, to support, and to share our stories. By doing so, we can create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. NAMI offers incredible resources that have been a lifeline for many families and countless others. Sharing these resources can make a world of difference to those who are struggling and their families. Together, we can break down the stigma surrounding mental illness and pave the way for a future where mental wellness is a priority for everyone. Let’s take this moment, and every moment, to support one another. Join us and NAMI this month in normalizing the practice of taking moments to prioritize mental health care without guilt or shame. As we approach the close of Mental Health Awareness Week (with the weekend still ahead to continue spreading awareness!), it's important to remember the true essence of this week. These weeks are not simply about rolling out attractive marketing campaigns or sharing catchy slogans. The core aim is to drive tangible, impactful change and to shatter the deep-seated stigmas surrounding mental health. Too often, conversations about mental health are shrouded in whispers and shadows, perpetuating a cycle of silence and misunderstanding. Mental Health Awareness Week serves as a powerful reminder that these conversations need to be brought into the light, not just for a week, but throughout the year. A puppy isn't just for Christmas, and similarly, mental health awareness isn't confined to a single week. This is about continuous, year-round efforts to educate, support, and advocate for mental health and well-being. Let's use the momentum of this week to catalyse ongoing dialogue, support, and action. Together, we can break down barriers and build a future where mental health is recognised as a fundamental part of overall health, free from stigma and discrimination. #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters

"Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think, I’m not going to make it, but you laugh inside — remembering all the times you’ve felt that way." This #mentalhealthawarenessmonth I want to focus my energy and time on the messy and chaotic side of living with #mentalillness that so often gets glossed over and is vastly underrepresented. While I am not my diagnoses, they have shaped who I am, how I present myself and how I navigate this world. Some days are better than others...some days it takes all the energy I have to get out of bed. But as the quote above suggests.....if you live with any #mentalhealth issue(s).....you know things come in waves. But what happens when those waves double up....what happens when they feel like they never stop? Part of being part of this community is learning how to ask for help when the "waves" are too much for you to overcome. Part of being part of the community is recognizing those around you who may not yet recognize they need help...or are too scared to ask...and offer a lifeline. My hope this month is that we all spend time really seeing those around us and cultivating an environment that supports and celebrates asking for help. If you or someone you know may be seeking mental health support....Look no further than NAMI's comprehensive suite of programs! Join us in making a difference today! #TakeAMentalHealthMoment #MentalHealthMonth

💚 Mental Health Awareness week approaches, starting tomorrow and while this is a week to generate conversations and awareness it may also be a week that some find a challenge. 💚 I know I find it difficult opening up about my own mental health challenges without feeling it is rooted in stigma. Alas, a lot of years of self reflection and work has brought me to a point where I now feel I can share my voice more than ive felt able to, we are all here talking and voicing the importance of this week no matter our circumstances and I matter. You matter. 💚 And if sharing my voice and raising awareness can brighten one person's day or help signpost them in the right direction or even help them reflect on their own challenges , then I know this work is all worth while! It always is , no matter how shakey my voice is. We got this. 💚 I'm looking forward to sharing the mental health packs that ISS have generated for our Placemakers , with the Supervisors tomorrow and celebrating, talking about and raising awareness on this very important week ahead. 💚 I'm particularly looking forward to 16th where we will 'Wear it Green' to show our solidarity for those suffering and overcoming challenging times. ✨️ Let's talk. ✨️ Let's make a difference ✨️ Let's raise awareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #youarestrong #youmatter

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 5: As this mental health awareness week draws to a close, I wanted to give a big shout out to all those who care for loved ones with mental health challenges. There are so many just quietly supporting, holding, caring for those who struggle, walking with them in the dark places of mental distress and being a guide on the road to those spaces where light and hope can once again be found. I realise I am very fortunate to have had so much help and support these past six months. Texts, phonecalls, emails, surprise little gifts, from a whole army of people who have just wanted to see me smile again. Not least an amazing board of REVS Trustees, and even more so an incredible family - for whom this six months has been an up and down road of walking with me through it all. Once again I am blown away by their love. I am also aware that there are those who have no close support, who struggle alone and often in silence. This is why community is so important - spaces and people who will not judge, but where welcome, compassion, and inclusivity are core values. It is why we are passionate about creating community spaces through REVS, why I believe a love of cars is a gateway to a love of people - whoever they are, whatever they drive, whether they have a car collection, or just a poster on their bedroom wall. These are not communities with a pecking order, or spaces for the 'select few', or ones that can be accessed only with the 'right car'. They are places where anyone is welcome and where we believe you will find some friendship, some peace, and a group of people willing to walk the journey of life alongside you. We all need community, I believe it is hard wired into our DNA, it is part of what makes us human. This mental health awareness week, let us thank those who care for us, who support us, who welcome us to be a part of a community. And, if you are willing, let us pledge to be likewise for others. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessweek #community Image James Baldwin (Unsplash)

During 2024 Mental Health Week, themed "A Call to Be Kind," we pause to reflect on the essence of compassion within our organization. Compassion isn't merely a word in our dictionary, it is the heartbeat of everything we do. At BoardWalk Group, our team is united by compassion and a shared passion to make meaningful differences in everyday lives. We are here because we believe in the power of empathy and action to create positive change. We partner with compassionate organizations that don’t just listen to the struggles their clients experience, but also roll up their sleeves and take meaningful steps to alleviate the challenges others face. As we navigate the complexities of societal health and well-being, we invite you to join us in turning empathy into action. Together, let's transform lives through the powerful force of compassion. URAC is proud to share with you information on this year’s Mental Health Action Day. For the fourth annual Mental Health Action Day on Thursday, May 16, 2024, our call to action is to dedicate one hour to CONNECTION. Everywhere we look, we see a loneliness and isolation epidemic, and a challenge this big requires an out-of-the-box approach. Why One Hour? Asking for one hour is simple, measurable and flexible. You can identify the action that makes sense for you, your family and your community to honor Mental Health Action Day in the way that works best for you. Think about actions such as a cup of tea with a friend, an hour volunteering somewhere in your community or a walk with a loved one. Want to learn more about Mental Health Action Day?
