While we are on the subject of good value in restaurants. Mr Broadway has recently (FINALLY . Phew!) received their liquor license for their new location. Delicious dinner. But - and this goes for ALL RESTAURANTS, mind you - when you THINK that the drinks (nothing fancy. 2 vodka: 1 1/2 ounces and $20 each; 1 glass of wine: 5 ounces and $17) make such a huge dent, it may be time to reevaluate your ordering habits, if you enjoy eating out, as I do, and would like to stay ahead of the game. In context: 1 1/2 ounce vodka is $20, and a nice big Caesar salad is $26.50. This could really throw our budgeting out of whack. It goes without saying that ordering a bottle for the whole table will be infinitely more cost effective. MOST cost effective of all, once in a while: eat out, enjoy your food, and pour yourself a drink any size you want when you get home, at a small fraction of the price. IMHO it’s the only way you’ll be able to enjoy eating out more often. Yeah yeah yeah some of you are going to say that dining out is nothing without the wine to go with it, and that it is indispensable to the dining experience, and I’ll answer, have both, but at slightly different times. Still a pretty awesome and very close second experience OK. Rant over. See that fantastic looking Chef Salad? Rather than pig out, I took a doggie bag of it, Cole slaw and all, and bingo, lunch: terrific deli sandwich on focaccia with a smear of my chili crisp (just finished developing my chili crisp recipe. Please comment if you want to see my recipe, and I’ll work on a blog post) Nothing will go to waste, I got an extra meal out of it.

I've noticed one interesting trend really take off in QSRs recently... The rise of sauces. People LOVE their sauces—in fact, recent data from Technomic’s Flavor Consumer Trend Report showed that 34% of consumers even consider available sauces when deciding on a restaurant. And QSRs are absolutely capitalizing on this. In just the past few months, we've seen: 🥣 Taco Bell's new "Avocado Verde" sauce for its Cantina Chicken menu. 🥣 Zaxby's new "Zaxtail Sauce" to complement their new Southern Fried Shrimp. 🥣 McDonald's new "Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce" to go along with their anime-inspired WcDonald’s campaign. And there are countless more! Customers want experimental, novel sauces nowadays. QSRs are delivering, and it's greatly increasing competition. #RestaurantTrends #QSRs #Restaurants

With a decline in pub visits, there's been a noticeable impact on the purchase share of classic pub fare, according to recent data from Lumina Intelligence Eating and Drinking Out Panel. Chips/wedges/fries and burgers have seen a dip of -9.9ppts and -8.4ppts respectively. This trend highlights fewer pub occasions, which are directly influencing the demand for traditional favourites. On the flip side, the rise in restaurant occasions reflects an interesting surge in steak and pasta dishes this year. Have you tried hot honey yet? Hot honey – honey infused with chiles – is all over menus at the moment. It's being drizzled on pizzas, added to chicken sandwiches, and even mixed into cocktails. The founder of leading brand Mike's Hot Honey started making it in his college apartment after trying it on a pizza in Brazil in 2003. I spoke to Mike himself, as well as some brands that have added hot honey dishes to their menus, to find out what makes it so popular – and how best to serve it. Read more via Business Insider

Attracting younger diners to your restaurant is about one thing: giving them the exciting new taste experiences they crave. Enter Flavour Shock – one of the key trends in the Future Menu Trends Report 2024. Delicious sauces are one surefire way to pack a flavour punch. Carlos Alberto Venegas Martinez shares his top 5 favourite Mexican sauces in the report and explains how to use them to build dishes with incredible flavour. “The flavours and textures of these sauces make them ideal to mix with different dishes and proteins. They go perfectly with burgers, pasta, chicken, fish and vegetables. You can use them as a main base to create the dish or as a side for dipping.” “Try experimenting with the technique to bring out different flavours in the sauce. For example, stir-fry or grill the ingredients before putting them together. You could also switch up some spices and play around with the textures. Don’t be afraid to break the rules and just go for it.” #ufsglobal #ufs #futuremenu #foodtrends

What did you have for lunch today? Today I was inspired to have something quick and healthy. My favorite go-to is arugula. It's a bright, tart, peppery base for salads, addition to sandwiches, and unique addition to pasta dishes. Have you had arugula? #privatechef #cookingclass #arugula #salads
