On October 9, the Packaging Valley Germany e. V. Sustainability Day 2024 will take place. This event is an important forum for the packaging machinery industry, providing a platform for insights, dialog, and discussions on sustainability within the sector. Attendees can look forward to the presentation, “Sustainable Packaging Materials: An Overview of the PPWR and Its Impacts – Requirements for Machinery Manufacturing,” by Holger Hoss, Head of Strategic Product Management at SÜDPACK. 💡 The PPWR is a systematic implementation of the EU Plastics Directive, aimed at reducing resource consumption and driving the packaging industry’s transition from a linear to a circular economy. Flexible packaging is already leading the way in terms of material reduction. When developing sustainable packaging solutions, it is essential to consider not only recyclability but also the environmental impact. To ensure process reliability, close collaboration with the packaging machinery industry is crucial when developing new solutions. Holger Hoss will provide an overview of the PPWR, its goals, and timeline. He will also explain how the PPWR is factored into the development of flexible packaging solutions. To conclude, he will present a use case in the area of pouch packaging. 👉🏼 More information about the event can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eVzDeJVd #sustainability #flexiblepackaging

Facing Challenges with Innovation and Sustainability in Packaging The packaging industry is tackling significant and exciting challenges. In SIG Group, like our customers, we are committed to producing sustainable packaging solutions made from lightweight, recyclable materials that support their sustainability goals. Our approach goes beyond just the materials – we focus on optimizing the entire system, from the production process to the machines that manufacture the packaging. For example, we introduced the DipStrip for Coca-Cola. This innovative plastic strip with small channels acts like a straw, ensuring that when the bag is emptied, nearly all the product is drawn through the channels to the fitting and dispenser. This not only minimizes waste but also makes the bag more recyclable. Curious to learn more about our bag-in-box solutions (used for products like wine, dairy, and soup) and spouted pouches (such as those for squeeze fruit)? Circularity Manager Barbara Krauß was invited by our cooperation partner VskE (Verband der Hersteller selbstklebender Etiketten und Schmalbahnkonverter e.V.) to talk about recyclability of packaging. VskE tackles important issues that affect all companies in the labelling market. In her presentation, she focussed on the following three points: - Recyclability and minimum standard in Germany - Current status of the PPWR for assessment of recyclability - Specific requirements for business processes in the labelling market The RecycleMe Compliance Compass is the ideal basis for companies that still need to orientate themselves in the areas of recyclability, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Work with our experts to find out which legal obligations are relevant for your company! As legislation on the recyclability of packaging continues to evolve, becoming more intricate as we progress towards a circular economy, working with trusted experts can help you secure the sustainability standards you need whilst providing peace of mind that your business is compliant. Well, did you know that Veolia has its very own packaging consultancy? CIRCPACK®is on hand to guide you through the world of recycling whilst providing the expertise and industry experience to help you deliver innovative new solutions. Just as we did for JOZO salt shakers which were in need of a shake up to make them easily recyclable. Their iconic packaging was made up of multiple components and materials so as they switched to a mono-material shaker, we provided the rigorous testing needed to help them secure a class B RecyClass Recyclability score (the score can range from class A to class F). It’s no surprise then that their product went on to be nominated at the world’s most competitive packaging innovation contest, De Gouden Noot 2024 and MCC Verstraete 's use of NextCycle IML™ on this particular packaging also went on to win the ‘Product Technology Innovation of the Year’ at the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2024.
