-- Disruption will also come to well established industries -- When Huawei and Xiaomi first announced their entry into the auto sector, many skeptics scoffed. Yet, their rapid success proves that new players can disrupt even the most established industries by adopting agile, tech-driven models. Quite well explained by this article in Les Echos. Rather than mimicking traditional manufacturing, they embraced modularity and rapid iteration, as seen in the tech industry. Xiaomi’s SU7, delivering premium quality at an affordable price, is just one example of how new entrants can drive innovation and force legacy players to adapt—or be left behind. Disruption in usual business models in not only in technology (even if the automotive industry is deeply linked with technology); even industries with heavy upfront investments, like automotive, are being reshaped by new business models. #Disruption #Agility #BusinessTransformation

I just flew back from China yesterday evening. During my two-week business trip, I had the opportunity to visit several major Chinese OEMs and engage in in-depth discussions with them about the rise of new energy vehicles (NEVs). We delved into the significant impact these developments are having on the automotive industry, including the challenges and opportunities they present. In line with Nico Wimmer 's perspective, I’d like to offer additional thoughts regarding "The China Shock," which highlights a crucial turning point in the automotive sector. The emergence of Chinese automakers as leaders in technology and customer experience not only disrupts the traditional hierarchy but also sets new benchmarks for innovation. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐑𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The shift towards in-house developed NEVs marks a bold move by Chinese manufacturers to assert their technological independence. Leading companies like BYD, NIO and Huawei, along with Zeekr Technology Europe, CHERY, Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd., Changan Automobile, and other key Chinese OEMs, are spearheading this revolution. This has prompted OEMs worldwide to reassess their strategies in order to keep pace with this evolution. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬: The influence of government policies, combined with advancements in AI, is pivotal. These factors create fertile ground for innovation, allowing automakers to explore new revenue models and drive efficiencies. Western OEMs should take note of how similar policy frameworks could be implemented in their own markets to stimulate growth and innovation. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬: The waning of price wars in favor of quality and technology reflects a profound shift in consumer expectations. Today’s consumers are prioritizing user experience and technological enhancements over cost. OEMs need to align their offerings with these evolving preferences by focusing on delivering exceptional value and innovation. 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲: Agility and cost control are critical in this fast-changing environment. To thrive, automakers must cultivate a culture of adaptability, enabling them to respond swiftly to shifts in the market and capitalize on emerging opportunities. 𝐈𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: the future of the automotive industry will depend on OEMs' ability to innovate and form strategic collaborations. Those looking to lead in this dynamic environment must embrace technological advancements and prioritize consumer-driven, tech-powered experiences. The race is no longer just about manufacturing—it’s about crafting an engaging, future-ready experience for consumers. The time to act is now! 🚗🌟 PS: I’ll be sure to review yesterday's edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine for further insights as well.

Agreed its insane and also a threat, when we consider China's ambitions (related to to Taiwan and other contested Islands in the South China Sea) and its affiliations with Russia, Iran, North Korea etc this threat is clear and growing. Through purchase of goods, we in the West are building the strength of an economy that has the objective to dominate us. The answer cannot solely be tariffs on goods from China, we need awareness and and action on the part of consumers.

This is why Canada needs visionary leaders that care about the productivity of our country. The industrialization of Canada has taken a down turn and we need a leader that can reactivate it. Right now, the present goverment majors in the minor and are not paying attention to the actual things that will increase the productivity of the country. The total decline of car manufacturing in Canada is just one of the issues.

Cars are evolving from mere transportation into mobile spaces, offering not only driving capabilities but also entertainment, office, and living functionalities as new core competitive advantages. To avoid becoming the next Nokia or Motorola, while considering whether to accept a new phenomenon, do you first take a look at what these novelties look like and what functions they possess? Recently, the topic of China's new energy vehicles has been particularly hot. Why not, before making a judgement, let me take a chance to show you these cars? Fortunately, the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)-Qianhai Automotive Industry Co-Creation Symposium provided an opportunity for me to encounter a batch of the latest models all at once. I'm interested in how they look, but there is much more to them. #auto #CEIBS Peter Zhou Dimitris Assimakopoulos Philippe MONIN Félix Valdivieso 唐夢龍
