Invi Air's Coastal Solutions - Reduced Noise of Air Curtain. One of the perks of living on the shoreline is leaving those living room’s sliding doors wide open, bringing that great beach feeling inside. Of course, this will create an air conditioning challenge of keeping the home cool and pleasant. The obvious solution is to create an air curtain on the opening’s threshold, by blowing a 90-degree high-velocity cold air throw straight down from top to bottom. This can be obtained by decreasing the size of the air diffuser’s opening while considering the noise criteria (the smaller the opening is, the more chance of noise). Invi Air’s non-metal diffusers have a very low noise criteria rating (up to 50% lower compared to metal diffusers, typically under 20 NC), which allows you to increase air velocity and air throw with less consideration to noise, thus allowing you to enjoy the open doors and the cool AC inside with considerably less noise. #Architecture #InteriorDesign

The Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) in Rotterdam are an engineering triumph that defies conventional design. Designed by architect Piet Blom in the late 1970s, each cube is tilted 45 degrees, resembling a tree, and collectively forming an urban "forest." Each house rests on a hexagonal concrete pillar that provides structural stability and resists lateral forces caused by wind and vibrations. The unique tilt of the cubes shifts the centre of gravity, requiring careful weight distribution through reinforced beams and joints to prevent collapse or tipping. Despite their unusual shape, each cube maximises usable interior space with three levels, proving that creative engineering can coexist with functionality with their unique design ensures aerodynamic stability, with the tilted cubes channelling wind forces around the structure rather than against it. *Chetwoods Materials Monday* This week we have been reading about SonaSpray K-13 by Oscar Acoustics, an acoustic insulation spray product. Not only does SonaSpray K-13 contribute to a calm and inviting interior space, it also hosts a number of benefits for both the environment and indoor air quality. Its certifications include Cradle2Cradle Bronze and Greenguard Gold Certified for Indoor Air Quality, and the product also has an EPD. Apparently, SonaSpray K-13 contributes to a number of different building certifications, such as the WELL Building Standard, BREEAM, SKA, the Living Building Challenge, and LEED. SonaSpray K-13 is made from fire-treated recycled paper, resulting in a low carbon footprint of just 1.37 kgCO2e/m2 (A1-A3). According to Oscar Acoustic’s website, SonaSpray K-13 can be applied directly to most substrates, including concrete, plasterboard, GRP, steel, glass, and expanded polystyrene, and will bond to a wide range of shapes. Apparently, the product typically has a lower installation cost compared to fixed acoustic panels.
