DirectDefense is excited to announce the launch of our 2023 Threat Report! This edition of our annual threat report analyzes the type and frequency of threats we saw and handled throughout the past year. Here are some highlights of our findings: - Primary threats from 2023 included: MFA abuse, cloud security concerns, social engineering, living off the land abuse, and single sign-on abuse. - 50% of all social engineering attacks in 2023 were executed through business email compromise. - 74% of all breaches in 2023 involved the human element. - 45% of breaches were executed through the use of stolen credentials. 2024 threat trends: Attackers are spending little for bigger gains, SIM swapping, generative AI, compromising publicly-available AI tools, going around endpoints, infiltrating IR communications, ransomware as a calling card, taking advantage of week application security, and single sign-on.
