Sports the one activity that unites nearly EVERYONE. I recently joined my friends (and 80K more folks) on a trip to London to see my team play in the NFL London series. Before the game, while on the tube, or while throwing back some pints 🍺 at the Green Man pub just outside Wembley the power of connection and sport really hit home. Its why companies see it as such fertile ground to market and align their services and brands to such loyal engaged customers and why it provides unique and unpredictable content. Sports, Life, and Inclusion. The impact of sports on individuals in their formative years including childhood is indeed critical. One of my then supervisors believed.. I'll be able to navigate chaos because during my interview, my answer to his question of "if you were not attending this interview what you would be doing?" was "Playing Football".. Was reminded of these life lessons last week, while sports took a backseat and corporate career took the front. - Talent alone will not take you very far but consistent performance will. Sportsmen with immense talent but do we remember the ones who couldn't peak? - Resilience is key, but persistence is extremely important. project deadline and a thrilling penalty shootout? Sounds similar. - Not just team sports, individual Sports need great team work as well, Hello ICs? - Injuries are common so are bad Appraisals, aren't spectacular comebacks and conquests more fulfilling? So are amazing corporate revival stories. - Last but my personal favourite, a diverse dressing room/locker room is the happiest one, and definitely the best one. And at Michelin we are commencing Inspiring Inclusion, where we see inclusion and diversity as a human imperative and a key contributor to Company’s performance and aligned with our Purpose and our core value of Respecting People. Working in #professionalsports is incredible, especially if you are a sports fan. I've been so lucky to have spent almost a decade working for #NHL teams and have met wonderful people, been part of events that provided meaningful #communityimpact, and learned from some of the best in the business. But, at the end of the day, sports is a business. Players are traded, ownership changes, leadership changes, and teams may even be re-located to other cities/countries. Yes, the end goal is winning #championships but it is also equally about making the most (or at least losing the least) amount of money possible. I think one of the biggest differences between #sportsbusiness and other businesses is that the customer base is often deeply, emotionally invested in the organization and extremely vocal in their feelings about performance and leadership. Quick to weigh in, criticize, or praise their team in public forums, especially with the rise of #socialmedia, fans do not hold back. They have strong feelings and opinions but don't always have all of the information. Rumors abound in the industry and can have long-lasting effects on a #fanbase. I also think that fans sometimes forget that at the end of the day, these business/teams/organizations are still all run and operated by people. People who work long hours and make less money than they could doing the same job in other industries. People who give up nights and weekends and sometimes holidays. People with families. People who care deeply. People who still have to do their job when fans and public opinions are against them, when teams aren't winning, and when there are consequences to the actions of players and/or leadership. I urge everyone - before you post, tweet, comment, or call and yell at a rep, remember that there are real people on the receiving end. People who still have to do their job and support the team. People who care, probably as much or more than you do. People who's lives are affected in how they can provide for themselves and their families. Sports, for you, may be a hobby or a passion. But for the #frontoffice of a team, it is often all of that plus their livelihood. *** I started writing this last week, more in a response to my own feelings about my situation. I was thinking about how players are traded, sent to the minors, etc. and are essentially a business asset. I was trying to frame my situation in terms of being part of business (like tech industry layoffs) and not personal (about me, Alison Martin, as an individual). In light of recent developments, I think my message has shifted more to reminding everyone that in business there are real human beings involved, and in sports that can get lost when emotions rise. Passionate fans can often be a double edged sword for those working in the front office. I've read and re-read what I typed, and almost deleted it a few times. In the end I've decided to share and hope my message comes across

"Organization is not a family but a sports team" In a nutshell what it says is - be competitive and keep improving your game if you want to be part of the game. at least it is a very transparent statement rather than saying "you are part of family but treat like a sports team eventually" i would refrain from giving my opinion but one point is very important to note that - sometimes you might feel comfortable and cozy with the feeling that you are part of the family and wouldn't grow further (comfort zone issues) until you realize that suddenly roles are changed from family to sports team and you are no more relevant. therefore, as an individual it's always best to assume that you are part of the sports team so that you will always be on your toes to be a top performer and thereby you always get higher auctions like soccer games or IPL :) remember that - even in national games, top players are kept on the bench if they aren't performing well or not in form.

I was just speaking to friends about this over the weekend. Few things have impacted me the way that playing competitive sports for 20+ years did. There aren't many experiences that can fully teach collaboration and teamwork in an immersed way. "According to respondents who have played competitive sports, the top skills gained from competitive sports include teamwork (69%) and leadership (41%). Other skills include managing stress and pressure (36%), problem-solving (35%), and effective communication (34%)." https://lnkd.in/ePvQQQGg
