🌟 Reflecting on a Landmark Event: Worthington Chamber's Annual Luncheon & Awards Ceremony 🌟 Last Thursday marked a milestone for our Chamber as we hosted the largest Annual Luncheon & Awards Ceremony since 2009. The event's theme, “ALL IN,” truly resonated as we celebrated the evolution of our Chamber and outlined the ambitious path forward. In 2025, we're set to advance our businesses and community in impactful ways: 🔹 Introducing the Worthington Business Advocacy Council: We're doubling down on our commitment to business advocacy. This initiative has been a driving force in my Chamber career, and with the backing of our Board and community leaders, we're poised to make a significant impact through the WBAC, along with more in the works, including having three representatives sitting on the Ohio Chamber’s Small Business Council. 🔹 Launching RISE our DEI Initiative: After months of planning, RISE (Revitalizing Inclusion and Supporting Enterprise) is ready to make Worthington a more inclusive business environment. Our mission is clear: invest in connections, amplify diverse voices, empower diverse businesses, and foster community. 🔹 Empower Her Symposium: In collaboration with the Harding Buller Foundation, we're excited to host this event, featuring inspiring speakers and impactful sessions for women across Greater Worthington and Central Ohio. 🔹 Reviving Service Day: With the help of this year's Leadership Worthington cohort, we're addressing critical needs of our aging population. We're committed to supporting City Council's Visioning process and enhancing our community service efforts. As I emphasized on Thursday, “Wenn schon, denn schon.” If we're going to do something, let's go ALL IN with everything we've got—no more waiting. Central Ohio is growing rapidly, and our businesses face too many challenges to settle for anything less. So, in the spirit of how this year’s Annual Luncheon closed, here’s my call to action: How can you and your business join us in going ALL IN for positive change and progress? Last night I finally had the chance to attend an AAF Chattanooga event and was feeling so inspired afterwards - perfect for a Women's History Month event! So many laughs, finger snapping & connection. We got to hear from a few female powerhouses in the advertising and creative industry talk deeply about overcoming imposter syndrome, breaking barriers and fighting for their seat at the table. I had a few waves of goosebumps as these incredible women spoke about what it's been like over the course of their careers to get where they are today and the advice they had for us early in our own careers. Here are some key points that resonated with me: - Realize that you deserve a seat at the table the same as anyone else. - Don't psych yourself out of going after what you want. - Foster a culture of inclusivity & raising up other women around you. - Figure out what you really love to do and don't settle. - Imposter Syndrome for women correlates with centuries of being conditioned to think we don't deserve to be in positions of power or ideas to be heard, so we have to work harder on shifting that mindset & the tendency to listen to voices of doubt. Give yourself grace. Creating a space to discuss these topics with transparency and changing the dialogue is incredibly important and those two hours had an impact on me. Your presence, vulnerability, and commitment to this work are exactly what’s needed to drive real, transformative change. By showing up, sharing your stories, and embracing the discomfort of growth, you are truly leading by example. We were guided over the past two nights by Dr. Nikki R. and Karen D. Smith Butler, two incredible Black women leaders who lead with love, compassion, and grace. They not only educated and supported us but reminded us of the urgency of this work. Racism and hate impact each and every one of us—regardless of our skin color—and the cost is something we can no longer ignore. Hearing the stories of the women of RAARE was a powerful reminder that racism has stolen something from each of us, and it’s time to take action. Together, we have the power to advance racial equity and create a world where racism can no longer live. Founding WIN: Women in Innovation has been an honor of a lifetime. As I reflect on the past decade, I am in awe of what a passionate and dedicated group of women, mostly volunteers, can accomplish. Across time zones, continents, and disciplines that drive innovation, we have tirelessly pursued our moonshot: a more equitable future, shaped by all of us. A future where women are in positions of influence and power to innovate groundbreaking products, services, and experiences that make the world a better place. It’s an understatement to say the building and scaling a nonprofit has not been easy. We have nearly shut down operations not once, but three times. And for an organization centered on genuine connection and in-person programming, the COVID pandemic presented an existential crisis. Yet, through it all, we persevered, pivoted, and refused to give up. Some say everything begins with a dream. For WIN, dreaming is what makes the journey magical. At the core of WIN is a fundamental belief that bigger tables, not separate ones, that include women are key to a generous future. The #WINAwards ceremony in New York marked a pivotal milestone. Last week I attended Damenfest, a women's networking and panel brunch as part of an Oktoberfest initiative. The stories shared by Mandy Bujold, OLY, Gwenyth Stadig, and Ajoa Mintah were truly inspiring. Their personal growth journeys, unique paths of "reinvention," and the power of community throughout their processes were nothing short of incredible. 👋 Mandy Bujold, OLY's story particularly resonated with me. She talked about retiring from her Professional Boxing career and the process of reinventing herself. Now, she's a powerhouse in business, construction, and community builder as well as what I would call a "super-connector." 💡 My take-a-way: Whether you're at home with a baby or considering a drastic career change, the path forward can be daunting, especially when our identities are intertwined with our professions or stage of life. It's these bold moves that often lead to the most rewarding outcomes. 👋 Gwenyth Stadig's journey from lifeguard to lawyer was equally inspiring. Her experience working in an Indigenous community, where she built meaningful relationships and connections, led her to become a purposeful lawyer. Today, she focuses on helping charities, not-for-profits, and other tax-exempt entities, as well as First Nations, Inuit, Metis, and Indigenous organizations. 💡 My take-a-way: We are shaped by the connections we make and the impact others have on us - and in turn, the impact we can have on them. 👋 Ajoa Mintah's chat about her "biggest challenge has been getting over myself," coupled with her realization that "in my career, I was encountering limitations everywhere, entrepreneurship offered me limitless opportunities," really showed the importance of staying true to yourself and taking big action. 💡 My take-a-way: Change and growth often stem from taking that first step, no matter how small it might seem. These women's stories show that reinvention can be scary, but it often leads to the most rewarding paths. Surround yourself with the right people as you navigate it - your community will make all the difference.
