During our EY Uplift Social Equity campaign, which we shot in December 2023 in Madrid, nine colleagues and I shared our stories to create positive change through greater awareness, to make our work environment more enjoyable for everyone. As Dolly Parton put it a while ago "... we cannot save the world, but we can save as much of it as we can, certainly can make it a little bit more enjoyable, you know, by getting out […] doing fun things, good things, work more within the community to make things happen in the world that you do understand and that you can control...". We can have an impact on our workspace and make that difference. When we allow people to be free, true to themselves, to embrace their gender and sexual identities without fear of judgment, especially in their work environment as this campaign tries to show, their ideas flourish, creativity surges, and productivity soars. I am aware I cannot save the world, but I can get out there and help trying to do the right thing for us, for the community, for a better together, to shape our future with confidence. So, this is my story. You can find all our stories here and explore Social Equity: https://lnkd.in/er3Zhv7Z Thank you Doriana De Benedictis, Ev Bangemann and Désirée van der Lugt for the opportunity to participate in this campaign and Ed Luker for doing the interview with me. #EY #EqualOpportunity #CollectiveVictory #BrighterFuture

Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder that a simple conversation can make a big difference. Checking in with someone—whether a friend, colleague, or loved one—could be the start of a meaningful connection and #support. Take a moment to ask, “Are you OK?” and really listen to their response. It’s small actions like these that help build stronger, more connected communities. Let’s make every day R U OK? Day. 💛 #RUOKDay #MentalHealthMatters #Support
As Impact Month continues at PwC Australia, we’re taking part in R U Okay? Day with connection sessions in our offices around the country. We’re encouraging our people to have authentic conversations at work, and check in with each other year-round. We know it’s the little moments that can really make a difference. This R U OK? Day, PwC Australia's Principal Psychologist, Amelia Flores, shares her tips for starting these discussions - not just today, but every day. #ruokanyday #ImpactMonth2024

Several clients asked me recently: Olla, we love working with you and the whole BeamReach Inclusion team, but do you think that it might be the time for us to part ways and hire someone internally? That got me thinking. When is a good time to let go working with an external consultant and ´get serious´ with an internal DEI expert? Or can these two exist simultaneously? It is always the question of your commitment, strategy, organisational complexity, size, industry and, let´s be frank about it: money. Here are my five cents on the topic: Internal DEI professionals bring a deep understanding of the company culture and provide continuous support, ensuring consistency in DEI initiatives. Their presence within the organization makes them readily accessible for ongoing training and consultations, fostering employee trust. However, being part of the company can sometimes introduce bias, potentially hindering their objectivity. Additionally, they might miss out on innovative approaches seen in other industries and could face resource constraints, especially in smaller organisations. In addition to that, in order to make an actual impact & influence, you need to hire someone in a very senior role - many companies simply cannot afford it. External DEI consultants, on the other hand, offer an unbiased, fresh perspective, which is invaluable for identifying and addressing overlooked issues. They bring extensive experience across various industries, along with specialized knowledge in DEI practices. Their flexibility allows for engagement on specific projects, making them a cost-effective solution for targeted needs. However, their involvement is typically short-term, which may limit their impact on long-term cultural change. They might also lack a deep understanding of the specific organisational culture and can be more expensive, particularly for smaller companies. In my view, finding the right balance is crucial: some organisations may benefit from a hybrid approach, leveraging the strengths of both internal and external DEI experts. Assessing your organisation’s unique needs, culture, and resources will help determine the best strategy for fostering a truly inclusive environment. I work with a lot of organisations who do have an internal DEI professional in-house already. Those are brilliant people who are often actively utilised by every department of the organisation and have very little time to e.g. deliver DEI trainings or to conduct an internal audit. What has your experience been with internal vs. external DEI support? Let’s discuss in the comments! And if you are seeking either internal or external DEI support - please do let me know! I have some great recommendations :) #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #HR #Leadership

We talk a lot ABOUT Gen Z, our youngest generation in the work force. 🗨💬 Let’s talk more WITH Gen Z. Today I hosted a workshop at our Deloitte Nordic Partner Meeting in Gothenburg together with Christian Jensby, Frida Haglund and Vidar Nilsen. As 37% of our Nordic workforce are now from Gen Z, this generation and their expectations are already shaping tomorrow’s work culture. The people agenda is growing in importance across our Nordic member firms, and the benefits of elevating this agenda together are obvious. With partners brought together from across the Nordic countries, we set out to explore how Deloitte may appeal to Gen Z while staying on track to achieve our broader goals and long-term vision. Listening and asking questions while remaining genuinely curious is, to my best belief, the way forward. Below, some of my colleagues in Deloitte Denmark react to common prejudices about their generation. A great effort to bridge the generational gap 😊 Thank you, Iselin Aarø Edvardsen, Valdemar Sloth, Arnas Pedersen, Nikoline Camille Høvring Wulff, and Adam Badr 🙏 #genZ #lifelonglearning #ledelse

Black Diamond proudly presents our June 2024 Employee of the Month, Johnny Ing on this #SpotlightSaturday! Congratulations to Johnny on his 7th year working at Black Diamond! Johnny is a consummate leader at our company, and his career growth has been a testament to his unwavering dedication and perseverance. As the Accounting Manager, he oversees financial reporting, and manages the accounting team to maintain accurate, timely financial records. His meticulous approach provides peace of mind for both employees and clients alike. Continue reading to get to know and appreciate him the way we do! Q: In your 7 years at Black Diamond, what’s been a memory that sticks out to you? 🏆: Definitely our recent 20th Anniversary celebration at the office. Being able to celebrate this milestone with both new co-workers and co-workers who’ve been in the trenches with me for years was a nice reminder of how far we’ve come as a company. Q: Can you share a piece of advice or a lesson you've learned in your career that has stuck with you? 🧑💼: It’s important to remain adaptable at a place that is continually growing. As job roles develop and organizational needs change, being adaptable allows you to take on new job responsibilities with confidence. This flexibility has helped pivot me into new opportunities for both my personal and professional growth. Q: How do you handle challenges at work to overcome those obstacles? 💪: When faced with challenges it’s important to have a plan of action. You set clear goals, have specific steps, and realistic timelines to ensure that you’re achieving your objectives. Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself that many people may not know about you? 🗺️: I speak four languages: English, Teochew, Hokkien, and Khmer. It always catches people by surprise that I don’t speak Mandarin or Cantonese, but there’s actually a lot of languages spoken across Asia besides the “big ones.” Congratulations again Johnny - and thank you for everything you do to keep Black Diamond’s financials accurate and up-to-date! 📢 Proud to be a part of a thriving culture at KPMG! 🌟 When it comes to building a strong company, Fred Wilson of Union Square Ventures hit the nail on the head: "You have to start with culture, values, and a commitment to creating a fantastic workplace. You can't fake these things. They have to come from the top... They are everything." 💼💪 At KPMG, we understand the immense value of a strong company culture. Research consistently shows that a firm's culture positively impacts financial performance, employee attitudes, and even analysts' stock recommendations. It's the foundation that sets us apart and propels us forward. 📈📊 Isadore Sharp, the visionary behind the Four Seasons hotels, echoes this sentiment: "Personal service is not something you can dictate as a policy. It comes from the culture. How you treat your employees is how you expect them to treat the customer." 🏨👥 We take pride in fostering a culture that encourages creativity, innovation, and a customer-centric mindset. It's this alignment between our culture and business strategies that reinforces our success. We believe in investing in our employees, providing them with opportunities to grow, and creating an environment that nurtures collaboration and out-of-the-box thinking. 🚀🔬 As a proud member of the KPMG family, I can personally attest to the power of our culture. It's a culture that embraces diversity, promotes inclusivity, and values each individual's unique contributions. It's a culture that empowers us to deliver exceptional results for our clients and make a positive impact in the world. 💡✨ Let's continue to prioritize our culture, both at KPMG and in our respective organizations. By fostering a strong and vibrant culture, we can create workplaces where everyone thrives, ideas flourish, and success becomes inevitable. Together, let's celebrate the power of culture and the incredible journey it takes us on! 🎉🌍 #ProudToBeKPMG #CompanyCulture #BusinessSuccess #Innovation #EmployeeEngagement

It is the heart-wrenching news of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a bright young professional who lost her life at the age of 26, just months into her career at EY. As a new employee, Anna faced overwhelming workloads, relentless pressure, and a lack of support in a new environment, which led to her untimely passing. Her mother, Anita Augustine, courageously speaks out, hoping that Anna’s story sparks meaningful change in workplace culture. No one should have to pay for professional success with their health—or worse, their life. This is a reminder that the well-being of employees must be a priority for all organizations. It’s not enough to focus on productivity if it comes at the cost of human lives. Work environments must foster support, empathy, and realistic expectations, especially for newcomers. Let's create workplaces where mental well-being is as important as professional achievement. We perform our best when we're at our best—inside and out! 🌱 #MentalHealthMatters #WorkCulture
