Never , i repeat , Never smash a cake in someone's face ! Smashing a cake in someone's face is seen as playful tradition, and in reality; it is the most uncomfortable , embarrassing situation. The Injury risk is high in particularly if the cake contains dowels or straws to support layers and decorations or for the person wearing glasses and other facial accessories. Even if it is intended as a joke , cake smash can leave the person feeling self- conscious specially when the mess spreads to their face, hair, and clothing leading to potential staining. What to do ?! Best to check with the person before head and ensure that any playful activities are welcome and enjoyable for everyone involved. Ask the baker if they used dowels or hard objects in the cake .If cake smash is planned, bakers need to know in advanced so they make sure you have the go-ahead . I must mention that blue, black and red colors are the worst when it comes to staining; so choose wisely ! In summary, while it might seem like a fun idea, the aftermath of cake smashing often leads to an inconvenient , messy and uncomfortable experience for the person involved. Other options are Cupcake smash or whipping cream pie smash , both have lower risk involved and smaller mess.
Oh my gosh, I would have never thought of dowels being in the cake!! Plus I'd be SUPER upset if someone did this to me! Are people actually doing this?!?!?!
I would HATE having this happen to me. Thanks for sharing!
I would be so mad if someone did a cake smash to me. Even the single piece tradition from weddings has always been a turn off to me.
My son's greatest wish for years was to have a cake or pie smashed on his face. For his birthday a few years ago we surprised him with a pan of whip cream to the face and he loved it! It certainly isn't for everyone though :)
Thankfully I've never had this happen or been at a party where this has happened. However, if it was game night and everyone wanted to play "Pie Face" I'd join in!
Great ideas! If you really want to do a "cake smash" and everyone is on board, make sure it's safe (and tasty please! I had a whipped cream pie in my face once that was No Name brand oil based "whipped product". Not yummy and hard to clean!)
Didn't even think of this. Also I would think it's such a waste of food and someone's talent.
Yes! This needs to be said more! I hate cake smashes, especially at weddings 😅

5moThis is such an important perspective to share! While cake smashing might seem like a lighthearted tradition, it can quickly turn into a stressful and uncomfortable situation for the person on the receiving end. I love your suggestions for alternatives, like a cupcake smash or whipped cream pie—it keeps the playful spirit without the potential for embarrassment or injury. Plus, checking in with the person beforehand is a thoughtful touch that shows you care about their feelings. Thanks for raising awareness about this! 🍰✨
