[EVENT] 🌍 Advancing Hydrogen Innovation at European Hydrogen Week
At GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz), we believe that hydrogen will be a cornerstone of the clean energy future. As a versatile and low-carbon energy source, it has the potential to revolutionize industries, from transportation to power generation, and accelerate the journey toward global decarbonization.
However, realizing this potential requires addressing significant challenges, particularly in transporting and storing liquid hydrogen (LH2) safely and efficiently. Drawing on our decades of expertise in cryogenic technologies, GTT is developing innovative solutions designed to meet these demands and enable the large-scale deployment of hydrogen infrastructure.
This vision was shared by our Director of Innovation, Jean-Baptiste BOUTILLIER, during his participation in a panel discussion on Hydrogen Transportation and Logistics at European Hydrogen Week, where key stakeholders gathered to advance the hydrogen value chain.
We are proud to contribute to shaping a sustainable energy ecosystem by supporting the emergence of hydrogen as a key player in the transition to cleaner energy.
Together, we are paving the way for a carbon-neutral future!

🌍 This week, I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion at at European Hydrogen Week, focusing on Hydrogen Transportation and Logistics.
💡 It was an excellent opportunity to showcase GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz)'s expertise in cryogenic cargo containment systems and introduce our latest innovation: a cutting-edge membrane-type containment system for the storage and transport of liquid hydrogen (LH2). This breakthrough technology aims to enable the safe storage and large-scale transportation of LH2.
🚢 Building on our extensive, sea-proven experience with LNG storage and transport, we are tackling the unique challenges posed by liquid hydrogen—including its extremely low boiling temperature ❄️ and low energy density⚡. Importantly, our development aligns with the evolving hydrogen logistics chain to ensure compatibility and efficiency.
💧 With GTT's LH2-Membrane containment system, we offer a solution for storing cold, non-pressurized hydrogen, providing a clean and adaptable approach compatible with various terminals and use cases.
👏 It was a pleasure to present this ambitious project to a broad and engaged audience.
🙏 A big thank you to Hydrogen Europe and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership for the opportunity to contribute to this vital conversation!

A few fun facts about Hydrogen:
1. October 8 is World Hydrogen Day because it shares the same sequence of numbers as the atomic weight of hydrogen: 1.008.
2. Hydrogen is the lightest element.
3. Hydrogen is colorless and odorless.
4. 75% of the Universe’s mass is comprised of hydrogen.

A pretty good overview of hydrogen integration status in Europe by Deutsche Welle. However, while the overall message may appear somewhat pessimistic, it’s important to recognize the lack of alternatives that can match this solution’s broad application range, integration into existing systems, and acceptance and support by most EU members. Video says „Brussels loves hydrogen and Hydrogen loves Brussels“, so far I see for the past 3 years, there are a good number of reasons behind that.
We've updated our interactive hydrogen guide with new data.
