Growing up in a Marathi-medium school, I heard classmates talk about Santa leaving gifts in their stockings. The holiday we call Thanksgiving is coming up in a few days. The season of thanks is a wonderful opportunity to do something very simple yet very powerful: ~ to give thanks Sound good to you? If you want a couple of "to do" items, here are two that occur to me: 1. What are you thankful for? What gifts have you been given in your life? When is the last time you have said a prayer of thanks? 2. Who are you thankful for? Who has been a gift to you in your life? When is the last time you thanked them? Doing these simple things could help change the world. Give it a try this week. And beyond.

Each moment together serves as a reminder of how God continues to show up in our lives, offering us opportunities to love and be loved. I’ve come to realize that we must be more intentional about making every day feel like Thanksgiving. Every day above ground is a blessing and a privilege, and we shouldn’t wait for a holiday to express our love and appreciation for our friends, family, and loved ones. Here are some ways we can cultivate daily Thanksgiving: 1. Start Each Day with Gratitude: Take a moment each morning to reflect on what you’re thankful for. Consider keeping a gratitude journal to capture these thoughts and feelings. 2. Reach Out: Make it a habit to send a loving message or note to someone you care about. A simple text, call, or handwritten note can brighten someone’s day and strengthen your connection. 3. Create Family Traditions: Establish a regular family ritual where everyone shares what they’re thankful for, whether it’s at dinner or during a family gathering. This fosters open communication and deepens your relationships. 4. Engage with Your Community: Find ways to give back. Volunteering or helping others not only expresses gratitude for your own blessings but also spreads love and kindness in your community. As we reflect on our lives, let’s commit to showing appreciation and love daily. Let’s not wait for Thanksgiving to tell those we care about how much they mean to us. As we come out of Thanksgiving day and week. We feel high...Here is why: Thanksgiving or giving thanks is a very powerful action. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of the preceding year. A tradition first documented in 1619 in North America that continues to expand geographically. Thanksgiving is a two-fold abundance action that gets us high. Yeah, it is similar to the high you're thinking about. So you better adopt it :) Wait high? Thanks for asking. Thanksgiving involves two elevated emotions. Those that are light in weight. 1. Gratitude Giving thanks for what you've received for life For live meaning - the harvest or the gifts of nature. - In other words, feeling grateful. 2. Giving Giving your time to spend with your loved ones and share your best moments of the year. Or just the action of giving at any time. - Giving yourself more to come by practising gratitude. When you practice gratitude and when you give, - You feel happier - You feel inspired - You feel abundant When you feel this way is as if you fly. And, you open the door for more to come to you. Gratitude is a complicated thing. The practice of Gratitude is a powerful way to positively impact the brain, our relationships, and our own personal growth, and yet there are many who struggle celebrating a holiday that while promoting Gratitude, also condones cultural erasure. Personally, I've always loved celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends, and using the holiday as a reminder to express thanks. Yet as I learn more and more about the genocide of indigenous peoples that this holiday is built on, I struggle with society's continual reinforcement of a day that promotes ritualized Gratitude, but denies it's true, shadowy roots. Many of us feel the societal pressure to celebrate when we know that the very people and cultures that were sacrificed currently suffer tremendously, while we sit at our beautifully curated feasts. We do, however, have some choice in how we recognize this holiday. Instead of ignoring the dark history, what if we were to practice reparation? What if we were to learn about our indigenous brothers and sisters, and teach our children the truth about our collective history, and how to do the very necessary repair so that we can cultivate ongoing healing? Maybe along with our Instagram and Facebook posts of family gatherings and beautifully laid out tables, we can also consider ways of giving back to the people and cultures who were taken from. Here are some ideas of connecting, learning, and offering support. Find other ways that resonate with you and your family, that feel congruent to your own path of understanding and healing, and ultimately giving Thanks.
