Barnsley Hospice’s Post

2024 has been an extra special year for Barnsley Hospice, marking 30 years since we first opened our doors. This wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local community, staff, volunteers and everyone who goes above and beyond to ensure our care is available for everyone who needs it. Let’s look back at just some of our 2024 highlights: 👕 At the start of the year, we opened Rotation @ The Hub, a specially curated area of the Barnsley Hospice Retail Hub for all things vintage and designer. 🚶 Over 60 hospice supporters took on our ‘30 for 30 Walk’ and completed 10, 20 or 30 km routes around the borough to raise funds and celebrate our 30th anniversary. ⛏️ The hospice gardens got a makeover to create a new seating area thanks to the generous team at P. Biddlestone Groundworks and Maintenance. 🍽️ Barnsley College hosted an Anniversary Dinner in support of the hospice at The Open Kitchen, with local dignitaries and businesses in attendance. 🏆 We brought home two awards at the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards in June. We also received Highly Commended in THREE other categories! 👟 We were chosen as the official charitable partner of the Barnsley 10K and over 50 incredible supporters completed the challenge in aid of the hospice, raising over £10,000! 🛏️ Two rooms on our Inpatient Unit were renovated thanks to the team from Countrywide Healthcare , funding from the Morrisons Foundation and generous donations from individuals whose families have been supported by the hospice. 🪩 We hosted a 30th Anniversary Ball to celebrate three decades of the hospice. 🌼 Our fantastic team of volunteer gardeners received another GOLD award at the Yorkshire in Bloom competition for all their hard work and effort in keeping the hospice gardens looking amazing. 🍸 The team at Waterton’s Reserve Gin created a limited-edition gin to celebrate our 30th anniversary. The special blend contained 30 unique botanicals - including lemon balm, lavender and mint from the hospice gardens. 🎵 We marked our anniversary and Hospice Care Week with the release of a cover of Lean on Me by local musician Tom Masters and an accompanying video featuring hospice staff, volunteers and service users. We were even lucky enough to premiere the song and video on the big screen thanks to Parkway Cinema Barnsley. 🕯️ Recently, we held our annual Light up a Life services which welcomed hundreds of supporters to the hospice and St Mary’s Church to celebrate the lives of loved ones. There are so many events and people who have helped to make this year so special, that it’s impossible to name them all. Thank you to all our wonderful supporters and volunteers for all your help this year - Barnsley Hospice simply wouldn’t exist without you. 🧡 If you’d like to make a donation and help us continue to be there for local people and their families, please visit our website: https://loom.ly/jgoC89Y
