The end is near! (Well, not really, for most people. But if you're a miles and points guru like me, there's a big deadline coming up pretty darn quick.) If you're looking fly for free, getting into the miles and points game, the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is considered the "gateway drug". This versatile card earns what we call transferable points -- points that aren't just good on one airline or hotel (looking at you, the United card I got waaayyy back) but can be transferred to a variety of airlines, hotels... sometimes even cruise lines! Here's the deal, though: Chase is currently running an ELEVATED SIGNUP BONUS on this card. After spending $4000 on this card in the first three months, Chase will award you 75,000 Ultimate Rewards Points -- that's up to $900 of free travel! Rumor has it that this bonus is going to end really soon. You will still be able to open the card, but the rewards won't be as great. So, what are you waiting for? Now's the time! Click on the link below to apply for this solid card. (I have zero affiliation with this link; I just really want to get people into the miles/points game!) https://lnkd.in/gxFZDUnB

I've complained about how store credit cards and airline ones are not good for both points enthusiasts and cash back captains. But what if you already have one of these cards? Typically you don't want to cancel credit cards since you'll lose that credit history and limit - but there are other times when it might make more sense to cancel a card, especially one with a high annual fee. Though each individual and credit card has their own situation, here's my general rule of thumb. If the card has no annual fee: KEEP since it doesn't cost you anything unless it's preventing you from getting other cards (e.g., Amex's limit) If the card does have an annual fee: 1) Try to get a retention credit that is worthwhile (see previous blog posts on how to do this) 2) Look for a downgrade path 3) Evaluate its worth, and then KEEP or CANCEL

Airlines are increasingly relying on credit card programs and rewards points for profitability, while smaller airlines fight for a way to break into this competitive market. This morning’s U.S. DoT and CFPB hearing on airline rewards credit cards focused on the roadblocks consumers face in navigating their points programs. “Credit card companies promise upfront benefits for signing up and using their rewards card, but often bury complex terms in the fine print for using the rewards,” said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. “The CFPB will be looking for ways to protect people’s points, stop bait-and-switch scams, and promote a fair and competitive market for credit card rewards.” Read more: https://ow.ly/ibc150RC4AP #payments #creditcards #rewards #airlines #points

Is the TSA PreCheck/Global Entry credit becoming standard for NO-FEE credit cards? Fidelity Investments recently emailed Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card customers about a new benefit, where they will receive 10K points (worth $100) every 4 years when they apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. 👇 This card has no annual fee and is issued by Elan Financial Services (a subsidiary of US Bank). U.S. Bank recently dropped the annual fee for its Altitude Connect Visa Signature Credit Card but kept the $100 statement credit benefit for customers who apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. 💡Is this the start of a trend? Only two instances, and both from the same bank with Visa Signature cards. Has it become a Visa benefit? I haven't seen it listed on the Visa website, but it would align with the other Visa benefits. US Bank/Elan has found a way to include this $100 benefit on a no-fee card. More questions than answers, but somehow US Bank/Elan has found a way. 💡💡Value prop escalation. Either way it points to value prop escalation across different segments of the market and particularly in the travel card space where banks have to find new ways to stand out. Incorporating this credit on a fee-based travel card is not the differentiator it once was. #marketing #advertising #travel #tsa #globalentry
