Do you trust your local, state, or federal government—or other institutions, for that matter? Justin Milner suggests that people today have radically different versions of how they experience life daily, which he believes contributes to a suspicion and distrust of institutions that some have. Check out our latest episode to hear why he thinks this is the case and what governments and other institutions can do better to foster more trust with the communities they serve. Milner, executive vice president of #evidence and evaluation at Arnold Ventures, also speaks with cohost Kimberlyn Leary about the role and challenges of using evidence to shape policy, #philanthropy, and learning agendas. The Power of Community: Unlocking Our Potential Together. As humans, we thrive in communal living. Whether it's family, friends, classmates, or church, being part of a community brings joy, support, and a sense of belonging. Yesterday, my big sister invited me to join her for a gathering, and we had an amazing time connecting with others and creating wonderful memories. But what struck me most was the story they shared about their community coming together to raise 10 million naira for a member whose business was on the verge of bankruptcy. And that fellow bounced back and the business started booming again. I was so wowed! By that singular act of community strenght. This community's selfless act is a testament to the power of collective support and care. When we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things! Community is about giving value and recieving value. Let's nurture our communities, invest in relationships, and support one another. Together, we can overcome challenges, celebrate successes, and create a ripple effect of kindness and generosity. The progress you are making as an individual can do better when the power of community is applied. However, thriving in a community requires some skills. Its will be disastrous that others will be building while some will be scattering, For a community to thrive, there must be vision, Mission, core values and a guiding principles. Remember what we know is what we transfer to the next generation. Have a bless week ahead. Share your own stories of community power in the comments below! Let's inspire and uplift each other. #CommunityFirst #SupportEachOther #TogetherWeThrive #KindnessMatters #GenerosityInspires"

In the world of family businesses, success often goes beyond financial performance or market share. A critical, yet sometimes overlooked, element that plays a significant role in shaping these enterprises is "place." For many family businesses, the geographical location in which they are rooted not only informs their operations and values but also becomes integral to their identity, legacy, and success. The physical and cultural connection to a specific place fosters loyalty, community engagement, and a sense of continuity that stretches across generations. https://lnkd.in/eDjS49y6

"Maybe my friend above is right, and family foundations should not exist. Really, foundations in general shouldn’t exist. Heck, most nonprofits shouldn’t exist. Most of us are here because of inequitable tax codes that allow wealthy individuals and corporations to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Family foundations can play a vital role in reforming tax codes. Yes, success would mean yours and other family foundations may not exist. But is that not what we’re all supposed to be working towards?" this.
“A serious issue is that because of how wealth is concentrated in the world, most of these families are white. And they tend to marry other white people. So family foundation boards are glaringly white. They can bring in as many staff of color and consultants as they want and discuss DEI and even have genuine success implementing it, but power is still concentrated among white families. How do we address inequity when this significant dissonance is accepted as normal?”
It’s time we acknowledge that “family foundation” is a weird concept

Belonging is a fundamental human need. As nonprofit leaders, you have the opportunity to cultivate a community around that feeling. By hosting in-person and virtual get-togethers, you can create a space where people feel valued, neighbors get to know each other, and people find commonalities, even if they’re an ocean apart. To plan an event that’s authentic to your organization’s mission, be creative and lean into your team's unique strengths. We’ve seen organizations host Lunch and Learn meals to spread awareness of an issue at work, candlelight vigils to connect families over a shared experience of loss, and virtual campaigns where participants from all over the country logged exercise and posted their progress. There are infinite possibilities for building community around a common mission. The work may be challenging, but fostering a community that will help strengthen the organization is profound.
