The release of the Phase 2 'Final Grenfell Tower Inquiry Report' this morning, alongside the 45 minute live press conference with members of the inquiry panel, led by Sir Martin Moore-Bick was a powerful and emotive point-in-time, 7 years in the making. Equally as powerful and much more heart-felt was the Grenfell United community groups news conference that followed, which sent a clear and direct message to the Government to not only implement all of the recommendations presented, but to also continue to enforce and deliver change across the construction industry. The final Report, across 7 volumes, 14 sections and over 1700 pages, including the 52 page overview/summary is going to take a while to digest, reflect, review and comment on, but we all owe it to those 54 Adults and 18 Children that sadly perished, and to their bereaved families and friends, to read every page, and to learn from these findings, to ensure this 'chain of failures' can never happen again. 💢 Be Alert When Choosing a Contractor Post Storm As Volusia County residents recover from #HurricaneMilton, property owners are cleaning up, repairing and rebuilding their homes and businesses. Officials from Volusia County Emergency Management and Building and Code divisions urge residents to be extra careful when hiring unknown contractors. Residents should be especially alert for door-to-door solicitors who promise to speed up the permit process or ask for large cash deposits or advance payments in full. Look first to licensed local contractors who have performed well in the past. If they cannot help you, ask them to recommend another reputable contractor. To find out if a person is locally licensed or state certified: - Call Volusia County’s Contractor Licensing Office at 386-736-5957, option 2 - Visit the county’s Connect Live site at www.connectlivepermits.org and choose the contractor tab Search for state-certified or registered contractors by clicking on the “Verify a license tab” at https://lnkd.in/ejpnZbD. #volusiabusinessresources

Facts are clear and data-driven. Maryland does NOT have enough funding to properly maintain our roadways. Governor Wes Moore & the Maryland Department of Transportation knew about this deficit and chose to defer an additional $1.5 billion away from roadway preservation, safety, and active transportation projects for “other” priorities. When 100% of our goods, services, and emergency response come to our homes by roadways, we must ensure their good condition. Inform your leadership in Maryland they must have adequate funding to ensure our roadways are properly maintained. https://lnkd.in/eniiS5yk #LetFactsGovern #LEAVENOmOdEBEHIND

As the UK continues to lower standards in almost every area, fire safety is one area that just should not be dumbed down, but it has been. 2005 saw the big mistake of changing legislation for costs sake. Fire safety is so important and needs good legislation and effective enforcement, both are missing. The push for carbon neutral is destroyed when fires like this occur and all because the UK sees the bottom line more important. I despair.

Today's biggest fire? Reported at a parcel centre in Staffordshire, which a friend of mine hinted at. I'm curious if the building had a fire suppression system. The smoke plume is huge, and fire services are ready/need to stay on-site for days. Thumbs up for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their ongoing efforts 💪 #fireservices #firesafety #fireengineering #majorfire
