This past Saturday, the Baker Hill family came together for our annual holiday party, and what a fantastic time we had! From laughter-filled moments to celebrating the amazing people who make our team shine brighter, it was a night full of joy. 🏆✨
Here’s to wrapping up the year with warmth, cheer, and the wonderful people who make it all possible. Until next year, happy holidays! 🥳
#BakerHill#HolidayParty#CheersToOurTeam
Holidays like Easter are times to be with family. Whether a Director of Sales, Regional VP or SVP of a business unit, I always make an effort to work on holidays when my team has to work. To me, team members are family members. If they can make these sacrifices, so can I.
Today, I had the honor or working with my Bluegreen Vacations / Hilton Grand Vacations#MountainLoft team/family in #Gatlinburg!
Team members brought in an incredible food spread. Everything from a spiral ham to my Easter Bunny cake wearing the #TNVOL orange tie, that didn’t seem to help against Purdue.
The message from this post is for anyone in business. Whether you own a business or are a leader of a gas station, hotel, hospital, restaurant, theme park or vacation ownership resort, it’s paramount you understand the sacrifices your team members make on special occasions like holidays or other family functions. We must build and participate in a #culture that recognizes them for preventing business interruptions servicing your guests/clients during important traditional family days.
Once arriving home, I took time to text and/or call my leaders across different states that were away from their immediate family most of the day and also at the office with their work family, as I could not be at every distribution center throughout the Midwest.
As a leader or executive you may not always be able to be in the “trenches” with them, but we can always show our appreciation.
This #culture can change the dynamics of your personal brand and the company! Thanks to everyone in my #MidwestBusinessUnit who led with culture today and dedicated much of your Easter time with your work family! They needed you too! I needed you too!
If you are looking for a #career or #brand change and would appreciate this intentional culture, please reach out for opportunities!

As we head into the end of the week, I always think of the many cleaners that are either finishing the week or have cleans to be performed.
And like Rosie in the video, the question I ask is - are the cleaners getting treated as they should be?
Yes, the impression in the video is of a gig worker, and the first impression that comes to mind is an Uber driver, or maybe a DoorDash delivery person, but what if I told you that the Fair Work Commission changes, due August 26, 2024, class cleaners as gig workers in Australia.
Why?
Because most cleaners are underpaid, mistreated, and incorrectly classed as contractors (over 80% percent of the cleaning industry operates like this - Sham Contracting) when they actually employees.
So I ask you, if your cleaners, like Rosie are trying to earn a living, but getting to some payment that equates to $7 per hour, do you think this is fair?
There is a solution - for everyone to accept that all workers deserve to be paid correctly, even if this means that the cleaning costs will go up.
And just like Rosie, when she sees an opportunity to get a well paid job, where she is treated well, we get cleaners approach us. Cleaners hear from their relatives, their friends, and our current cleaners about how we treat our team, and contact us, asking how do they get a job with us.
And to you, what is the outcome?
A cleaner that is so appreciative to have the job, so happy to at last be paid correctly, so happy to have the training and support, they do their ultimate best to deliver to you, our clients and us, the best standard they can.
So as we all end a week, I ask for some thought to be given to the Gig workers - the ones that work the hours most of us don't like to even think about working, and ask are they being treated fairly?

🎄 Happy St. Nicholas Day & Put on Your Own Shoes Day! 👞🎅
Today, we celebrate two unique occasions :
🌟 St. Nicholas Day – a day to honor kindness, generosity, and the spirit of giving.
👟 Put on Your Own Shoes Day – a lighthearted reminder of independence and responsibility.
As a QHSE Manager and DE&I advocate, these two celebrations offer profound lessons for both work and life :
✅ Kindness – like St. Nicholas, small acts of generosity and care can make a big difference in creating a supportive workplace culture.
✅ Ownership – putting on your own shoes is a metaphor for taking responsibility - not just for your tasks but also for the safety and well-being of others.
✅ Empathy – remember, not everyone’s “shoes” are the same. DE&I reminds us to consider others' journeys and create spaces where everyone can thrive.
My call to action:
1️⃣ Step into someone else’s shoes today – take time to listen, support, or lend a helping hand to a colleague.
2️⃣ Walk with purpose – reflect on how your actions impact the safety, inclusion, and growth of your team.
3️⃣ Celebrate generosity – share a shoutout for someone who embodies kindness and responsibility in your workplace or community!
Let’s honor these values by taking intentional steps toward a safer, kinder, and more inclusive world. Share your story or tag someone who inspires you in the comments! 🥿🫶

At both Disney and Cedar Fair loyal guests often questioned changes to the parks. It seems that every ride or attraction we removed was someone’s favorite childhood memory.
Some of the changes were dictated by modern safety and accessibility standards. Some were removed because the cost to operate them was disproportionate to the ridership demand. And some were removed to make room for something determined to be bigger or better, often involving new technology.
Taking a step back, I believe there is what I call “genetic vacation behavior.” This is the desire to share what you did as a youth with the generations that came after you. This is why so many of the rides and attractions that are decades old are still very popular. Their secret is not in great technology nor is it in their genesis from animated films, as many have their own backstory. Their power is in the memories that were created as families and friends experienced them together. For the record, even fifty-five years later I believe my brothers and I can sing the Country Bear Jamboree chorus, “blood on the saddle and blood all around…”
When I was challenged by guests regarding such changes, I explained to them that we believed it was important to respect the history but not to revere it. I know Webster will disagree with my use of revere, but for me that implies more of a religious devotion. Admittedly, finding that balance can be difficult but the only thing that guarantees that these parks are still here in the future is that changes are in fact made.
It is hard not be impressed by a new muti-zillion dollar attraction or the speediest coaster on the planet. But to be honest, changes that require more imagination than dollars are higher my radar. The best creativity comes not from limitless boundaries. Brilliance comes from solving the puzzle that has borders. Soarin’ Over California is a famous example of just that. Ghost Town Alive at Knott’s Berry Farm is another.
So, changes will happen and that is mostly a good thing. I just hope the rumor is true about the Country Bear Jamboree!
