The United States Marine Corps has announced the service’s Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) is "fully operationally capable", a full year ahead of schedule. The quick fielding by the Marines leveraged lessons from USSOCOM and the US Army certification of the weapon. The ASR replaces the M40A6 (a derivative of the long-serving Remington Firearms (RemArms) 700 platform) and MK13 Mod 7 rifles. Its barrels are chambered for 7.62mm, .300 Norma Magnum, and .338 Norma Magnum rounds, which the service said will help Marines hit targets from farther away when needed, and with greater precision. #sniper #usmc #capitalparkpartners

‘It’s a light infantry equalizer. They come in with a light armored tank, or they come in with vehicles like Hiluxes equipped with machine guns on them — whatever it may be — you can equalize the battlefield with a Gustaf.’ - ‘Boom! A brief history of the 84mm Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle’, Task & Purpose, 2024 At School of Infantry, officers and NCOs are perfecting their employment of infantry heavy weapons before going back to their units to command these capabilities. The 84mm Carl Gustaf is a (relatively) portable anti-armour weapon employed by Australian infantry units. In this scenario, soldiers have prepared an anti-armour ambush on two enemy armoured fighting vehicles. The section commander co-ordinates their fire before they make a hasty withdrawal and avoid re-engagement. These types of anti-armour weapons allow infantry to have a disproportionate effect against more heavily armoured and armed enemy units. Infantry can ‘hit and run’ causing confusion and attriting the enemy. Australian Army Jason G. #Infantry #DutyFirst #CarlGustaf #HeavyWeapons

As the Army is shifting for potential conflict against sophisticated nation states at much greater distances, senior leaders have expressed the need to move network complexity up from brigades and into their parent division headquarters. With that overall strategic imperative, the 3rd Infantry Division is taking it upon itself — using existing capabilities and tools without purchasing anything additional — to produce a new network architecture that will unburden brigades and make units more mobile for large-scale combat operations. https://lnkd.in/eTtG6VtX
