As I solve technical issues today, I ran across a term used in software development and the military that applies to my technical and personal life..."friction" ✅ Prussian General Carl von Clausewitz defined friction as the difference between military theory and reality. "Everything is very simple, but not very easy. Everything is very simple in war, but the simplest thing is difficult. These difficulties produce FRICTION" ✅ In Software Development - A vendor’s API doesn’t work as you thought it did, or someone leaves the company, or a client changes what they want during development. ✅ I know "Murphy's Law" but Murphy never mentioned "friction". Question for May 2, 2024 - why is the simplest thing so difficult (per Clausewitz)? Are we making things complicated when we solve problems? ✅ There was one issue we solved that involved the simplest oversight - it cascaded into something it was never meant to be. Multiple people got involved but we only really needed ONE pair of eyes. 👀 🙏 For today - Please do not make your life more complicated than it needs to be. I wish friction would take some PTO.

A complete fluke. Or was it… I often get asked how Tyler McCarthy and I came up with the idea to start BidScript We were 20 years old… how did we come across such an operational niche? I used to say: “It was a complete fluke, we stumbled on it from nowhere.” 🙏🏻 I would like to retract that.
