✨👏 Delighted to see Hinckley Associates Nigeria’s continued ambition and investment of $5 million in Africa's first lead-acid and lithium-ion battery recycling facility. Based in Ogun State, Nigeria, this groundbreaking project will create 100 new jobs for residents and introduce cutting-edge UK-patented technology to safely recycle batteries. In collaboration with the University of Birmingham, and The Faraday Institution, Hinckley Recycling will address the pressing issue of lead poisoning and ensure responsible battery disposal. Since 2019, Ayrton Fund programmes have supported Hinckley’s growth, with achievements including: 🤝Partnering with Carnegie Melon University to develop second-life and end-of-life solutions for solar lithium batteries winning the CLASP Global Leap Awards Solar E-Waste Challenge. 💡Installing Nigeria's first fluorescent bulb-eater to safely dispose of toxic mercury vapours and protect communities in Lagos, with support from CLASP 🔋Piloting an initiative to produce second-life lithium battery packs to power fridge freezers in Nigeria's cold chain sector, with support from Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities. We look forward to seeing the impact that Hinckley’s latest investment and collaborative partnership can have in advancing battery sustainability. #HinckleyRecycling #SustainableDevelopment #CircularEconomy #batteryrecycling CLASP The Faraday Institution Transforming Energy Access Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
