As we wrap up another re:Invent, I find myself reflecting on one of my key tech predictions for 2025 — one that feels particularly close to my heart. In my conversations with emerging businesses and organizations, I’ve noticed that today’s builders are increasingly guided by a higher purpose. They’re using technology not just to drive profit, but to address some of humanity’s toughest challenges and create meaningful, positive change across the globe. My time with our Now Go Build CTO Fellows at re:Invent only reinforced this perspective. They stand as proof that it’s possible to align technical innovation with values-driven impact while building sustainable careers. As technologists, this offers us an inspiring path forward. Ask yourself: how can your own work contribute to making the world better? Could you lend your expertise, share your skills, or join forces with those already making a difference? In an era of unprecedented societal challenges and rapid technological advancements, it's crucial to remember that growth, learning and reflection aren't just for quiet times — they're essential to our future. If you’re curious to explore this further, you can read more about my 2025 tech predictions here: https://lnkd.in/eFRVzc_K Not sure where to start? +1 Werner Vogels - performance and purpose there’s no doubt of the impact - and a very Happy New Year to you.
Great point. Technology is about changing how we interact with machines. The way to a better future is not by making humans work faster like machines, but by designing machines to help us be more empathetic and understanding. Progress means connecting people beyond borders, languages, and even sign languages, giving everyone a chance to learn and connect, no matter their background. The real test for technology is how well it can enhance our shared humanity. We often forget that all of this is only possible because of the advances we are seeing.
If only we used technology to free people rather than further imprison the working class. If only we actually cared about protecting the environment rather than only doing so where it is economically beneficial. The techies at places like Amazon who want to push us into a future of greater capitalism, consumerism, and surveillance-states are building our demise and not our “future.” Sick of this “tech will save us” propaganda — corporations are destroying us
Man love your insights about 2025 predictions Werner Vogels Take the rise of agentic AI as an example. Companies are using it not only for efficiency but also to tackle complex issues like healthcare access and environmental sustainability. It’s a powerful way to blend innovation with purpose. As leaders, we should ask ourselves: How can our tech solutions address real-world problems? So, I guess that collaborating with non profits community projects easily amplify our impact maybe
The idea of tech with purpose resonates deeply. It's inspiring to see tech aligning with humane values. You seem to feel there is genuine sustainable commitment too, which is encouraging.
There’s a higher purpose to what we can do with tech innovations to affect our world positively and make an impact! 🙌
Love this. AI is part of the path forward. Our impact should be focused on sustainable development and energy solutions. Tackling the toughest human problems has to start with those MOST vulnerable citizens.
100% well said. If engineers don’t drive the change of technology for the good life, health and sustainability for human and environment, then the pace of change in reality will be super slow. Only technology innovation can showcase imagination to bring to reality. Thanks Werner to highlight and +1 to Tanuja, Happy New Year!
Thank you for sharing such an inspiring perspective. It's indeed remarkable to see how technology can be a force for good, driving both innovation and societal impact. As we look towards 2025, I believe that fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations will be key.

2wI love this one: “Personally, I dedicate one afternoon a week to learning, turning off my phone and email to focus on reading academic papers or exploring the latest AWS services. Similarly, high-performing executives have been known to exclude phones from the first hour of their days to boost cognitive power, a practice supported by Stanford Lifestyle Medicine experts. These practices align with the Dutch concept of ‘niksen’—purposeful idleness, or the art of doing nothing.”
