Today, we celebrate Suffrage Day, a significant moment in Aotearoa’s history. We honour the courageous women whose efforts have advanced equal rights and shaped a better society for us all. Their mahi paved the way for organisations like the Agri-Women's Development Trust to continue empowering Kiwi women. We stand on the shoulders of these trailblazers, committed to carrying forward their legacy of strength, resilience and progress as we support women to excel in pivotal roles across the food and fibre industry. #SuffrageDay #WomenInAgriculture #AWDT #EmpoweredWomen #NZHistory

At the invitation of Silvia Bender, State Secretary at German's Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), and the Ambasada Niemiec w Warszawie, we participated in a meeting focused on supporting the role of women in sustainable agriculture. Silvia Bender presented findings from Germany’s 2023 study on the living conditions of women in rural areas and introduced a program supporting female entrepreneurship in agriculture. Małgorzata Bojańczyk shared information on ongoing initiatives, including the first Polish study on the living and social conditions of women in agriculture. This international gathering provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences with representatives from other countries that promote the professional and personal development of women in agriculture. Sharing experiences and insights that support gender equality and sustainable development among women in agriculture is a primary goal of the Agro Woman initiative. We also discussed food system transformations, structural changes in agriculture and rural areas, and European integration, addressing key topics such as the priorities of Common Agricultural Policy reform, EU competitiveness, the internal market, and the importance of implementing innovations and sustainable practices in agriculture. https://lnkd.in/duYKib6j #woman #sustainability #agriculture #equality

Almost half of the world's 550 million #SmallholderFarmers are women. Yet they often face unique challenges not experienced by their male counterparts. That's why our commitment to reach 100 million smallholder farmers by 2030 is also a commitment to provide female farmers with equal opportunities. This International Women's Day, we #InspireInclusion in remote communities through our #BetterLifeFarming Alliance. Together with our partners, Bayer has taken significant strides to create a network of women enabling one another as farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to cultivate crops more sustainably, improve harvests, and boost their incomes. #IWD2024 #TeamBayer

Empowering Women in the Carnauba Chain: At Brasil Ceras, we are committed to addressing the social challenges in the carnauba supply chain in Piauí. As part of our action plan for the 2024 harvest season, we hosted a significant event on May 18th: "Mulheres da Carnauba". Women often serve as primary caregivers and educators within families, passing down essential values, knowledge, and skills. The carnauba extraction industry is inherently a family activity, sustained through generations for over a century. Recognizing this, we gathered women from all facets of the carnauba supply chain—suppliers, producers, extractors, wives, mothers, family members of producers, artisans, educators, and students from the Carnauba for Education and Biodiversity project. Our goal is to transform the challenging working conditions in the carnauba industry. We believe that engagement, knowledge, and information are the driving forces for a carnauba chain rooted in respect for human rights. During the event, all participating women received training to play a crucial role in ensuring traceability records and the well-being of their family members or groups of workers. Armed with new knowledge and skills, these women will become agents of positive change, promoting best practices in the carnauba chain. Training covered human rights, dignified working conditions, traceability protocols for collecting and storing carnaúba wax powder, use, conservation, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), collective protection equipment (CPE), and first aid in the carnaúba extraction chain. Each participant received a first aid kit as part of the initiative. Through this initiative, we aim to bring about significant positive changes not only for the women in the carnauba industry but for the entire community involved in this vital economic activity. Together, we can build a fairer and more prosperous future for all. At Brasil Ceras, we prioritize equal opportunities and female empowerment, aligned with the UN's SDG 5. We implement policies and programs to support the development and leadership of women in our production chain. Our commitment to gender equality not only meets a global goal but also strengthens our corporate culture. We continue to advance on this journey, ensuring everyone has equal opportunities. #BrasilCeras #MulheresDaCarnaúba #Empowerment #Equality #HumanRights #Sustainability #CarnaubaIndustry #WomenInBusiness #SDG5

This International Women's Day, let's celebrate the incredible power of women in agriculture! As a fellow entrepreneur and sustainability strategist, I'm all about building a food system that's inclusive and THRIVING. That's why I wanted to share this insightful report. You'll see just how crucial women are to feeding our planet, even though they often face some pretty tough obstacles. From nurturing the land to driving innovation, women are hidden heroes of agriculture. But all too often, they don't have equal access to resources, education, mentoring, or even a say in the decisions that impact their work. This needs to change. Initiatives like CARE's Farmer Field and Business Schools and PepsiCo's She Feeds the World program are empowering women to be successful farmers, entrepreneurs, and agents of change. These programs are proving that investing in women is not just the right thing to do, it's smart economics! ...and just to remind us all that this is also about achieving multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)! SDG 2: Zero Hunger: Empowering women in agriculture directly contributes to ending hunger and achieving food security (SDG 2.1). Studies show that when women are involved in agriculture, yields increase by up to 30%! SDG 5: Gender Equality: Closing the gender gap in agriculture is critical for achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls (SDG 5.1). SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: By giving women equal access to resources and opportunities, we can reduce inequalities within and among countries (SDG 10.1) We really need to work together to break down barriers and silos to unlock the full potential of women in agriculture. As a realistic dreamer and a doer, I envision a future where everyone has a seat at the table, and our food system is not just sustainable, but downright AMAZING! #IWD2024 #genderequality #agriculture #womenempowerment #sustainability #sdgs
