Aware is feeling inspired after attending the TUANZ Tech Users Summit presented in conjunction with the Digital Health Association (DHA) last week. It was fantastic to gain so many insights into the current challenges facing New Zealand’s health sector and hear from leaders in the space who recognize the value the tech industry can bring to the solution. Leigh Donoghue’s speech was particularly inspiring, as he emphasized the need to reshape the technology that underpins our health system. He eloquently highlighted New Zealand's strong history of technical innovation, using the image of a waka on hydrofoils soaring above the water as a powerful metaphor for what a transformation of our health system could achieve. At Aware, we’ve always been ahead of the curve when it comes to big data and AI, but our true purpose has always been to enhance the lives of people and organizations through the ethical and sustainable use of emerging technologies. We can’t think of a more fitting application of our skills than to improve the health and well-being of every single citizen in New Zealand. We know the road ahead won’t be easy, and there will be many challenges. But New Zealand has the tech talent to deliver the transformation that we need, and we are ready to embark on this journey with you. Let’s chat, and together, we can deliver the future of healthcare. #DigitalHealth #AIinHealthcare #FutureOfHealthcare #TechForGood #HealthcareRevolution #TechUsersSummit2024

Cannot solve todays problems with yesterdays thinking 🤔 We can however approach problemss from new angles 📐 and gain better perspectives. This is especially pertinent when using design and systems thinking to understand how an ecosystem interconnects on every level, be it mechanical, societal, or biological - if we really want impact health we will need to take bold steps and #HealthEnterprise #Innovation are requirements for the 22nd century healthcare industry and workforce. Watch this space! Interesting things afoot 🦶

It's good to see that the NHSE Innovation Ecosystem Programme report has been published today. PHG contributed to the work with a review of the opportunities for earlier diagnostics and prevention. The final report has managed to summarise the insights of multiple contributors with great deft. As ever, the knotty problems of capacity, money and culture remain the key barriers to ensuring innovations can reach clinical practice. But timing is everything. With the NHS 10 Year Plan consultation underway and the recent publication of the Sudlow Review there is an opportunity to bring these strands together. And it needs to - health outcomes, data and innovation are inextricably entwined. We won't solve one without addressing them all. https://lnkd.in/edT6XxuC

📢 Meet VEIL.AI at the Radical Health Festival Helsinki, May 21-23, 2024! With the recent approval by the European Parliament, the European Health Data Space (EHDS) is set to transform the handling of sensitive health data across the EU. EHDS will enhance the cross-border use of health data for the benefit of individuals, policymakers, businesses, and researchers. it will play a key role in facilitating health information exchange, data sharing and secondary use of health data across the Member States. As a leader in secure health data utilization, VEIL.AI is at the forefront of addressing these evolving needs. Our next-generation data anonymization technology can produce high-quality, truly anonymous individual-level data from real patient data. With our technology, you can draw the same conclusions from the anonymized dataset as from the original data. This opens up numerous possibilities, such as: ⚡ Facilitating transborder data collaborations for researchers ⚡ Producing more real-world evidence ⚡ Investigating rare diseases with larger datasets ⚡ Creating an external control arm for clinical trials ⚡ Re-using legacy data ⚡ And many more! Interested in learning more about how VEIL.AI can help you navigate the new, exciting landscape of EHDS? Meet us next week at our booth at the Radical Health Festival in Helsinki, May 21-23, 2024! #EHDS #RadicalHealth #RadicalHealthFestival #datasharing #datacollaboration #dataprivacy #healthtech #digitalhealth #secodaryuse #sensitivedata

What a great 3 days at the Health Innovation Community conference, hosted by Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH)! Some take-aways: 💥 A CSIRO project showed how small-number, detailed qualitative research can sit comfortably alongside high-number quantitative research. This means small outfits (like Xstitch Health!) can meaningfully contribute to the research world. 💥 We love the concept of “facts per decision”, explained by John Doulis: Data is exponentially increasing the number of “facts” available (eg genetic information) per clinical decision. As the number of facts moves beyond human cognitive capacity, an acceptable standard of care must address data synthesis. 💥 Aasha Cowey’s slide on “fund teams not projects” resonates with the Xstitch aim of creating a new environment for clinicians to work more effectively. The networking was fantastic and we have some new leads on using technology in the social health sector. More to come soon! #hic2024 #HealthInnovation #DigitalHealth #Research #XstitchHealth

Standing on my strong clinical background, I clearly perceive and grasp the extent to which digital health technologies (DHTs) can bridge the health care gaps. Improving access, quality, and efficiency of health services, with indeed, some level of personalisation. The most pressing challenge is to improve adoption and integration of these technologies into health processes, reducing resistance to change. Aligning the DHTs to practical needs remains vital. In this view, the technology first approach is limited, instead, I believe the health service first is more suitable. Developing them with an Afrocentric perspective will facilitate their adoption, and equitable dissemination. Taking into account the cultural acceptability and linguistic practicalities of our terrain will be critical in this endeavour

What a great #diaeurope2024! However, it took me a while to think about this post. Here's why: The conference was super interesting and informative, with relevant updates on #EUpharmaRevision, and associated discussions on the definition of #UnmetMedicalNeed, the role of #AI in #MedicalResearch, #Sustainability in #HTA, the #EUHTAregulation, and more. But what left me puzzled was the whole discussion on the competitiveness of Europe for #HealthInnovation and #medical #research. In particular, the discussion around medical research exclusivity: the fear for Europe (and the West more broadly) to lose the almost complete global exclusivity in conducting medical research, primarily #RandomizedClinicalTrials (#RCTs). The main argument which I cannot understand is the one that stresses the need for facilitating the regulatory system to maintain such exclusivity. While I totally share the need to create a flexible and future-proofed regulatory system, I simply reject the argument of medical research exclusivity. Now, I, of course, think #Europe should and must stay on top of #Health #Innovation, but this type of argument is wrong and counterproductive for two main reasons: 1) #Diversity in research is essential, and these arguments undermine the construction of future-proofed systems that can embrace a larger and more diverse research environment. 2) Perpetuating such structurally conservative arguments threatens European (and Western) future #leadership roles. Because, unless we believe that the rest of the world will never reach minimum standards of living, the rest of the world will remember our protectionism and might exclude us in the future. And yes, most importantly, let's not forget we (the entire white West) currently account for only 10% of the global population. In the future, we will be even less. It is simply unthinkable to want to maintain the status quo. Just wanted to share these thoughts with you; let me know what you think. Probably, at #diaeurope2024, I misunderstood something...
