Veterinary Check-ups As pet owners, many of us may not be aware of the hidden dangers lurking in our homes, particularly in the form of xylitol. This sugar substitute, commonly found in gum, candy, and certain brands of peanut butter, can be lethal to pets. Xylitol triggers a rapid release of insulin in animals, leading to hypoglycemia. Symptoms include weakness, lethargy, ataxia, tremors, and in severe cases, coma or death. If you suspect your pet has ingested xylitol, immediate veterinary attention is crucial. Early intervention can significantly improve the chances of recovery. Your vet will likely perform a thorough examination and may run blood tests to check glucose levels. 🌺 April is Heartworm Awareness Month 🐶 As an integrative veterinary clinic, we take a balanced approach based on your pet's individual risk. We suggest: ✨ Doing heartworm testing every 3-6 months in mosquito-endemic areas ✨ Considering natural preventives recommended by an integrative veterinarian, if applicable ✨ Boosting the immune system with a fresh, species-appropriate diet ✨ Using chemical preventives sparingly during peak mosquito season ✨ and more... Heartworm is serious, but we should handle prevention and treatment effectively for the optimal 360 care and health of your dog (or cat). Did you know that cats can get Heartworm too? They're able to handle the condition better than dogs, but they can get affected! We can discuss a balanced, integrative strategy for keeping your pets safe and healthy! #HeartwormAwareness #IntegrativeVetMed #PetWellness #ChicagoPets #glenviewillinos #integrativevet #integrateeducatecommunicateheal #veterinaryclinic
