Exploring Digital Product Passports with FHH - Fondation Haute Horlogerie Our CEO Romain Carrere and General Counsel Danika Ahr were honoured to be invited by Fondation Haute Horlogerie to present a masterclass on Digital Product Passports (DPPs) in collaboration with Deloitte. The session delved into the transformative power of DPPs in the luxury sector, highlighting their journey from product origin to client experience and exploring how upcoming regulations, such as the ESPR, mandating DPPs for many products by 2027, can be reimagined as a powerful opportunity for luxury brands. Rather than viewing compliance as a challenge, we discussed how DPPs unlock immense potential to elevate the customer experience. By leveraging blockchain, brands can integrate meaningful services such as e-warranty, e-insurance, and care / repair offerings—providing a seamless and enriched ownership experience, especially in the world of luxury watches. The session also featured an insightful contribution from Valeria G., representing our member brand Czapek & Cie., who shared their innovative work with DPPs and the benefits they bring to their heritage craft. Last week I attended Watches and Wonders in Geneva, the place where all the novelties from the biggest timepiece Maisons are presented. But why are watches relevant for my job with KORE? The answer: Digital Product Passports. These digital ownership certificates are usually created in addition to traditional paper based authenticity certificates. We have created a fully automated approach: as soon as a watch is completed by a maître horloger, our system receives the necessary assets from the brand’s existing IT infrastructure via API: clouds, SAP systems, etc. and create a NFT on a previously selected blockchain. The brand can then manage these passports in a management cockpit while the customer claims the certificate after his purchase by registering on the client care website of the Maison horlogère. The benefits of a digital product passport? Proof of ownership is the most obvious one, however it also makes it easier to document the history of the timepiece and brands can combat counterfeit more easily. But it doesn’t stop there: brands could also combat the flipping of watches by making the NFT certificate non transferable for a certain amount of time after the purchase. In my opinion the true value however lies with the integration of functional AND emotional loyalty aspects into digital product passports: tying proud new owners of incredible masterpieces to you as a Maison, cherishing these ambassadors in your very own language and helping them carry the emotional value of their timepiece across generations.
