Please stay away from the Seals and keep your dogs & children on their leads around any wildlife! If you want a closer look at any wildlife, get binoculars! A few weeks ago, I witnessed three jet skiers, all of an age that should have known better, landing near a large group of seals. The seals fled to the water, scared to try to reach safety from these idiots! We tried shouting at the jet skiers, but they continued to drive around dangerously fast and scared the local wildlife. It made me incredibly sad we couldn't stop them from scaring the Seals & their pups. Isn't it time we banned jet skis? They are always poorly driven, regularly endanger swimmers, especially in anchorages, scare wildlife, are hugely antisocial, and burn vast amounts of carbon. In a world of limited resources, we don't need jet skis! If you want to enjoy the water & wildlife - get a paddleboard and keep your distance! Scaring and chasing any animal, whatever your age, is not cool! #Seals #Sustainability #Respect

Tip #1: Be vigilant. Watch for wildlife on the road ahead or in ditches. Be particularly cautious cresting hills or going around curves. Your sightline is much shorter and you may suddenly come across wildlife. View our recorded webinar to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gQY2yXWA

As our development globally sprawls to keep up with population growth, habitats are further lost and fragmented. There are plethora of concerns to wildlife in population “islands” where their habitats have lost connectivity and inhibited their ability to roam or migrate. Designing to support biodiversity needs to be considered more heavily as our impacts grow manifold in shorter and shorter time spans, given the extent to which we have already altered and affected the natural environment. We need to come at design from an integration mindset, rather than an eye-rolling checkbox exercise. What are ways design integrating biodiversity needs have been incorporated where YOU live?

Wildlife corridors are essential to preserve genetic diversity of populations sadly separated by human development. Brazil is in dire need of creating some of these corridors, not only for animals, but to connect Atlantic rain forest fragments that are isolated, destroying heterozygosity in several tree species. Looking at Brazilian LULC maps, we can see that very little effort and investment would be needed to connect forest fragments, allowing the transit of pollinators and bringing diversity for highly homozygous populations. All we need is political will to do it.
