For years the public consensus echoed through major media outlets was that retail was dead and that amazon and online orders was the new shopping experience. The Wall Street Journal wrote a very interesting article on how online shopping is actually saving the Bricks-and-Mortar Stores. See the Summary Below: National retailers are using their physical stores as fulfillment hubs and marketing channels, integrating their e-commerce experience with the property to improve the profitability of their operations by eliminating overhead costs of online orders. This strategy of integration resulted in 42% of e-commerce orders in 2023 to involve the physical stores, a trend expected to persist as retailers are predicted to open more stores than they close in 2024. Kohl’s, Walmart, and Target are all retailers that have adopted this strategy, with Target fulfilling almost all its online orders through its physical locations.
