Developing new, resilient crop varieties is critical to food security as climate events become harsher and more frequent… But it’s also important to prevent further damage, breeding crops that require fewer inputs like fertilizer and pesticides which then get into our ecosystems. And, as Brendan Collins points out in this CNN segment which aired last week, you can also create varieties with more soft, edible components, like broccoli - which then reduces organic food waste. Watch the Bold Pursuits special (12 mins in) to learn more about how Avalo, Inc is speeding up crop development with ML and AI techniques to bring these to farmers in a few years vs. a decade or more. The weather is a farmer's greatest friend and foe... I've just read a fascinating article about a new AI powered software which is helping farmers to make more informed decisions about which crops to plant and when, depending on what the weather plans to do! It uses current and past data, such as from satellite imagery and temperature and rainfall readings, and combines it to make future projections. I know from the latest Clarkson's Farm, Jeremy would certainly be interested in this technology to take the guess work out of farming!

One of the main challenges faced by agriculture companies is the identification of diseased plants that can result in significant losses in productivity and grain quality, which directly impacts farmers' profitability and the country's economy as a whole. With this in mind, Macnica and Embrapa are working together on a project to detect soybean plant diseases at an early stage. InnerEye's Braintech technology is currently being tested by farmers themselves, who are able to identify diseased plants using images of the leaves of soybeans and now corn. To understand how InnerEye's disruptive technology can help you improve your efficiency, read the following article: https://lnkd.in/ewUMvMdW #InnerEye #MacnicaATDEurope #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Agriculture #Productivity #Embrapa

🌞 Can wheat handle the heat? With rising global temperatures making farming tougher every year, I’m thrilled to see progress in plant research. Prof. Zhou’s team develop a quicker way to screen wheat pollen for heat tolerance—just hours instead of days! 🌡️ Using a gradient PCR machine, they can test pollens at different temperatures all at once, making it easier to find heat-resistant varieties. Knowing that researchers are working on resilient crops gives me real hope for our future food security 🌱🌍. Read more about this breakthrough here: https://lnkd.in/eM7maMhA
