Another cyber attack affecting a logistics operation. https://lnkd.in/ev_CGBhA Of course all businesses need to ensure they, and all their suppliers, are doing all they can to reduce the risk of cyber attacks…but I don’t think any business can be confident they are completely safe. So make sure you have a Business Contunuity Plan, that can be enacted as soon as you are aware of an attack and while the issues are being resolved…which can be weeks. Here are my tips on Business Continuity Plans. And of course we can help you build one if you don’t already have one. #LogisticsTechnology #CyberAttack #BusinessContinuity

There is a well known saying that you never want the first use of your Incident Plan to be with a real incident (when you are reliant upon it). And with this in mind, last week we used the free resources of the NCSC business continuity Exercise in a Box https://lnkd.in/eSMzUdEt. The NCSC considers cyber exercising to be one of the most cost-effective ways an organisation can test its ability to respond to cyber incidents. In undertaking the test, our objectives were to practice our business continuity response, test our plans and to a degree, check our resilience to cyber-attacks. Exercise in a Box is an online resource from the NCSC which helps organisations test and practice their response to a cyber-attack. It is completely free and the NCSC website says you do not have to be an expert to use it. We used a table top exercise for ransomware delivered by a phishing email. We have really good ‘buy in’ from our Senior Leadership team and the attendees for the test included our Managing Director, our Chief Finance Officer, key members of the IT Team and the Compliance Team. Prior to the test a few of the team had undertaken a pre run through and we had some additional PowerPoint slides prepared to make the test relevant to our Company Systems. In terms of the NCSC test itself, the pre-reading material was shared and enabled our Directors to question our IT Team on the test-response with thought provoking questions. Undertaking the test, it did what the test said it would do, it enabled us to check our current defences and identify areas for further improvement. We came away with a list of TO DO actions (some of which are really worthwhile). It was also a positive and affirming team building task. I definitely recommend the NCSC Exercise in a Box tests as a starting point, but make them relevant to your organisation and its Company Systems with a bit of pre preparation and additional slides. What is not to like!
