I’ve just finished reading Pride & Prejudice for the 412th time, give or take a few.
It’s the one book that absolutely had to come on the boat.
I fell in love with it after watching the BBC adaptation aged 12, and was subsequently the first 'grown-up' book I truly adored.
It became my barometer of literary joy.
My first conscious insight and aspiration to love and be loved. And in Elizabeth Bennet, my first and greatest literary crush.
It has since become my palate cleanser.
If the difference between my last and next read is too jarring, a few chapters of Pride & Prejudice will do the trick.
If I don’t have another book to immediately turn to, Pride & Prejudice it is.
If I just need a place of comfort & joy, it’s Pride & Prejudice.
We can’t hear our favorite stories too many times.
Books, movies, plays, poems, songs, podcasts. Whatever your thing, I’m sure there’s one that you’ve consumed an innumerable number of times.
What's the story that has taken up residence in your soul?
And from it, what can you learn about yourself, the story that you want to tell and in doing so, the gift you can give the listener?
