Sustainable and Resilient Healthcare in Europe 🌐
MedTech Europe has outlined 10 key recommendations to support the European Commission’s Sustainable Prosperity and Competitiveness Plan, aiming to integrate the EU Green Deal into healthcare. These guidelines aim to create a healthcare ecosystem that is environmentally sustainable, financially sound, and resilient to future challenges, while fostering medical technology innovation across Europe.
MedTech Europe's 10 Recommendations:
✔️ Accelerate Renewable Energy Adoption: Ensure continuous access to affordable renewable energy to decarbonize healthcare.
✔️ Strengthen Collaboration: Foster partnerships among healthcare actors to enhance social, environmental, and economic outcomes.
✔️ Integrate Green and Digital Agendas: Leverage digital transformation to drive sustainability and system efficiency.
✔️ Complete the Single Market: Harmonize EU rules to protect the environment and support a competitive medical technology sector.
✔️ Enhance Sustainable Finance: Support innovation in sustainable materials, packaging, and technology through a strong finance framework.
✔️ Encourage Value-Based Procurement: Drive systemic change with standards and guidelines for sustainable public procurement.
✔️ Remove Barriers to Sustainability: Streamline legislation to reduce regulatory burdens and align with environmental goals.
✔️ Create Patient-Centric Transition Pathways: Allow medical technology manufacturers sufficient time to transition to net-zero without disrupting patient care.
✔️ Promote Circularity: Enable circular practices in medical technology through supportive policies and incentives.
✔️ Simplify Sustainable Design Policies: Improve chemical assessment processes for safe, sustainable materials that optimize patient outcomes.
