Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Mimi’s Pantry in Riverside, MO. The grant request was submitted by Emily Detwiler, AWG Support Center employee. Mimi’s Pantry is a state-of-the-art food pantry that supports families and individuals, who are faced with the challenge of not having enough nourishing food available to them. Therefore, they offer a full range of food items needed to provide a nourishing, balanced meal. Mimi’s Pantry is stocked with boxed and canned goods, along with a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats. What makes Mimi’s Pantry unique is their library full of books, which is available for their clients to take home. They recognize that oftentimes there isn’t enough money left in the budget to buy books for family members. Thank you, Emily, for donating to AWG Cares and submitting this grant request! Anyone can donate to AWG Cares, not just AWG employees. To learn how to donate to AWG Cares, please visit: https://lnkd.in/g7Xg4nza

Supporting your local food bank by donating food and other essentials. This winter more people than ever are being driven to food banks and the sharp increase in people needing help is outstripping food donations. Donations are vital to ensure food banks can continue to help everyone referred to them. How to donate food 1. Donate directly to your local food bank. 2. Drop off at collection points in supermarkets across the country. 3. Make a financial donation to your local food bank on their website, so they can buy what they need. 4. Add items to your online supermarket shop (where available) to send directly to the food bank. 5. Host a collection for your local food bank at your school, church or business. Or by hosting a food drive. Items to donate It’s best to check on your local food bank’s website or social media to see which items they need most. In general, the following items are often needed (non-food essentials are also accepted): Food UHT milk Tinned meat (hotdogs, meatballs etc.) Tinned fish Tinned fruit Sponge/rice puddings Coffee (small jars) Long-life juice Pasta sauce Tinned veg (potatoes, carrots, green beans, tomatoes) Tinned meals (spaghetti, chicken or veg curries, chilli) Tinned soup Jam and spreads Non-food items Shower gel Shampoo/conditioner Deodorant Toilet rolls Washing up liquid Laundry detergent pods Sanitary products For more information contact The Trussell Trust or visit their website: https://lnkd.in/eBJeXHHi #donations #hunger #community #foodbanks

PACK Savannah is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides weekend food packs to over 4,600 food-insecure children in Savannah and the surrounding areas. They also have two smaller programs that support foster children and children in crisis. These videos will do a much better job of introducing PACK and Malena, its founder. https://lnkd.in/eijqB6jQ https://lnkd.in/ePbKwYkh https://lnkd.in/e3CvBnHp When we first met, Malena said to me, "[Our mutual friend] says you want to help us feed children. How do we start?" That was Monday, 2/5, and we have been busy since. PACK's biggest challenge has been sharp increases in food costs. Because her food pack is unique compared to what many food pantries typically provide to families, only about 10% of PACK's total food can be sourced from the local food bank. She's recently experienced high triple-digit cost increases in several food categories, so I have been arranging alternative suppliers to help reduce costs in line with previous levels. Today, we placed our first order for six pallets of juice boxes. This would have cost PACK $9,000 recently, but we were able to place this order for $5,040 shipped. We also identified a supplier for individual snacks (e.g., cookies, nutritional bars) at more than 50% estimated savings and no more precious time wasted making trips to local Sam's. These savings will go a long way toward stabilizing the organization's financial health. Unfortunately, PACK is critically under-capitalized at the moment due to recent price hikes, and it would take 2-3 months before our current cost-cutting efforts and fundraising initiatives get us on solid footing again. Please consider donating to PACK to allow us to continue our operations without interruption. $200 feeds a child for 52 weekends, but any amount of support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. https://lnkd.in/ek5QmmQb -> Click 'Donate Now'. #nonprofit #childhunger #foodsecurity

Did you know that 1 in 8 Americans experience food insecurity while more than $200 billion is spent on food that will never be eaten? That’s billions of pounds of food wasted instead of going to those who need it. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) aims to redistribute excess food to people experiencing food insecurity. RLC makes it easy for businesses to donate their excess food to their community and provides a reliable, professional food rescue service for our partners at an efficient cost. Join us at the Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Gala 2024 as we unite to end food insecurity. If you cannot attend, please donate to support the cause. Health comes in a lot of forms within our community and so do our needs. One need that is a challenge for 23% of households this holiday season is food insecurity. In fact, over the last 5 years, Canadian food banks saw a 90% increase in visits. 300,000 of those visits were for children. For these reasons, Body Co will be running a food drive for The Daily Bread Food Bank this holiday season. As of today, you can drop off non-perishable food items or make a cash donation with our administrative team. Items that are most needed are: 🥫Shelf-stable and non-perishable foods that are long-lasting – like rice, beans, pasta, and flours. 🐟️ Canned protein like chicken and tuna. If you would like to make a donation directly to the Daily Bread Food Bank, you can do so at: dailybread.ca #foodinsecurity #foodbank #communitycare #bodycotoronto

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! This #HungerActionMonth, Dairy West is excited to announce our collaboration with Tackle Hunger to combat food insecurity across the nation. During this crucial month and throughout the year, we are committed to ensuring that essential dairy foods are within everyone’s reach. Milk, cheese and yogurt, while highly demanded, are seldom donated to food charities because they need refrigeration. Through our partnership with Tackle Hunger and their innovative donation map, you can help change this by making monetary donations directly to local food charities. These contributions will provide nutrient-rich dairy to those in dire need. This initiative spans 21 states, where regional dairy councils work tirelessly to ensure that donations reach our communities effectively. This effort not only feeds but also nourishes, supporting everything from children’s growth to adults' health. Jaclyn St. John MS, RDN, LD from Dairy West underscores the urgency: “With 13 million children facing food insecurity in our nation, our partnership with Tackle Hunger is crucial. By donating through the Tackle Hunger Map, you support our local food banks in providing dairy essentials to families in need.” 🔗 Join us in making a difference. Visit the map.tacklehunger.org to support your local food charity and help us make dairy accessible to all. Your involvement can lead to a healthier, more equitable community. #TackleHunger #DairyNourishes #FeedTheChange #AgNews #StrongerInNumbers
