#India as the #largestdemocracy in the world must prioritize reducing and rationalizing its governance structures. In #1947 only 20 ministries were in place. Today, #India has 55 ministries and 54 departments at the Union level excluding #PMO, the #Presidentsecretariat, the #CabinetSecretariat, the #NationalSecurityCouncilSecretariat, and #NITIAayog. Apart from this India has 486 #autonomousbodies. Various departmental portfolios lead to #governance in silos.

Cartoons created for the Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies 's gathering of their climate and environment portfolio grantees, which were designed as caption contests for the participants. While the cartoons I am posting here bear my original captions, the cartoons initially displayed to the participants were captionless, inviting them to team up over filling in the caption clouds, resulting in a delightful icebreaking and team-building exercise, as well as some truly hilarious and ingenious captions! A big thanks to the RNP team for the opportunity. More on https://lnkd.in/gn5HpX6k To view the cartoons with captions written by the participants at the event, visit https://lnkd.in/gA4DhBqK

Hoorah for the first ever brand awareness campaign by Citizens Advice https://lnkd.in/dqKR22g9 When you know any organisation as well as I think I do, it's easy to get a bit jaded and cynical but actually, this is very inspiring. It reminds me why I was so taken with the service when I joined as an unemployed 23 year-old, and have just kept on coming back to it again and again. The video highlights our campaigning role too - people often forget this. For me, it helps to pin down what we really can be, and in places and at times we are, but let's be honest, there's still a lot we need to do to change: 👉 We need to be more diverse - senior leadership, staff and our volunteer base needs to really reflect the communities we serve - just like the video, at all levels of the organisation but we are not there yet 👉 We need to be better resourced - this requires ambition and foresight - but there are opportunities. At the moment, too many people who seek our support are frustrated, and those in the very greatest need may not even reach out in the first place - this needs to change 👉 Related to this, we need to be even more agile, efficient and effective and look to achieve even greater impact. So much has been done to improve in this regard already, but this needs to continue But hey! enough of my yabbering...... there's still so much to celebrate and and an imperative to remind anyone who will listen, the enormous value of our service...
