Construction is less productive today than in 1997 🫣 I listened to a podcast by these guys a couple of weeks ago and that stat surprised me but didn't shock me. And don't be fooled by the fact that this is a podcast from the UK, because we have the same (arguably worse) inefficiencies here in NZ and over the ditch in AUS given our end of the line supply issues 👎🏻 A valid point in the podcast as to why, is that we've stopped harming as many people, which is a positive of course. But sometimes it can go alittle too far. For example about a month ago I was walking down Petone esplanade and saw two workers about 50-60m away from the water on Petone beach. One sat in a small excavator and a spotter breaking out the footpath with a small breaker attachment on the digger. Both wearing head to toe PPE, hard hat, glasses, gloves and life jackets I can only assume that a tsunami came up on the hazard register the control was to minimise the risk with PPE! We need to get more productive as an industry. Evolve or die. 🤷🏼♂️ #productivity #nzconstruction #australianconstruction
🚨 Construction is less productive today than in 1997?! 🚨 📊 Paul describes this as "a slap around the face with a wet kipper." It’s a startling revelation that highlights the urgent need for change! In this eye-opening episode of the Own The Build podcast, Paul Heming and Christopher Barber discuss a shocking industry study and part of Chris’s vision for how main contractors and tier-one companies can become more efficient using digital platforms like C-Link. Chris's vision includes: 👉 Leveraging purchasing gains by understanding subcontractor workloads and negotiating group commercial discounts. 👉 Identifying subcontractors who can value engineer projects, offering alternative solutions to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. 🚀 By adopting digital platforms like C-Link, main contractors and tier-one companies can unlock these opportunities, driving efficiency and innovation in the construction industry. 🔗 Discover more about the importance of modern, integrated systems to mitigate risks and improve efficiency: https://lnkd.in/eRVt-ka #construction #automation #digitalcontracts #C_Link #ConstructionManagement

The power of building automation - what type of impact could it make on energy consumption and the future of sustainable buildings? What would happen to our overall carbon output if we were to consider an overall building strategy - syncing the functionality of the envelope & mechanical systems. It’s really taking an ‘envelope first’ approach - utilizing passive means to optimize system performance. Yet, it’s not too late if you’re looking to tackle an existing building retrofit - we just face unique challenges that require intentional design inputs. Kevin A. and Michael Ruhl share thoughts on the All Things Facades podcast. USGlass Magazine®
