We’re delighted to share the launch of our new Neonatal Care Leave Policy here at Dorset Council 👶🍼 We understand the challenges families face when a baby requires neonatal care, so we’re here to support you every step of the way. Parents can now request Neonatal Care Leave if eligible and if their baby requires neonatal care after 1 April. Our policy offers: ✨ Up to 12 weeks of additional Neonatal Care Leave, at full pay, for parents with babies in neonatal care for 7 continuous days or more in their first 28 days of life ✨ Neonatal Care Leave for both parents if they both work with us ✨ Flexibility to take Neonatal Care Leave after maternity or adoption leave, and before or after paternity or shared parental leave (within 68 weeks of the baby’s birth) We're proud to be ahead of the curve, offering support for our colleagues and their families before it becomes a statutory requirement for all organisations 🌈 #NeonatalCare #FamilySupport #WorkForDorset #ParentalLeave #EmployerOfChoice

New resource aimed at encouraging improvement in NHS maternity services. We have published a series of online resources to support NHS hospital maternity services, sharing good practices and encouraging improvement. Developed with input from providers, maternity staff, and stakeholders, these resources are designed for staff at all levels to enhance the quality of care and drive positive change. https://lnkd.in/eBngV55N - CQC published their National review of maternity services in England 2022 to 2024. A very tough read. We tried to summarise the key findings and recommendations, using a simple improvement tool (the cause and effect diagram) to ease actionable understanding. Each maternity will be unique, and I know will explore through concerted dialogue and at pace how their systems work, as every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets and those working day and daily in close partnership with women and newborns have the wisdom and ideas to improve. Behind these findings, many professionals working extremely hard every day to learn and improve, in service of best possible processes and outcomes. As well as many safe, high quality care experiences for mothers and babies. Similarly, much suffering that could be prevented. An urgent call to action. In many ways, including the urgency around inequalities and racism. So grateful to continue to work with NHS Race & Health Observatory, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG NHS England Healthcare Inequalities team and several maternities towards closing race related equity gaps in care. Maternity failings have been in headline news over the past couple of months, with inquiries opening on the care of mothers and babies across the UK. Issues with maternity care persist, which is why HIWM’s Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement Programme (MatNeoSIP) is so important. MatNeoSIP aims to reduce the national rate of preterm births from 8% to 6% and reduce the rate of stillbirths, neonatal death, and brain injuries occurring during, or soon after birth by 50% by 2025.
