March is International Women’s Month at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (the Food Bank) during which we are shining the spotlight on how food insecurity impacts women. https://lnkd.in/eJTsb5Z5 According to the USDA’s most recent data on food insecurity, 12.8% of U.S. households experienced food insecurity in 2022. https://lnkd.in/emDPnhTi Single women with children accounted for 24.3% of these households, while women living alone accounted for 13.2%. These numbers are higher for women of color. On Thursday, March 14, thanks to generous supporters, donations to our International Women’s Month initiative will be tripled. Which means tomorrow only, instead of $1 providing 5 meals, a $1 donation will provide 15 meals. A donation on International Women’s Month Triple Day sends a powerful message of support and empowerment to women in our community. Take steps to provide much-needed food to women in our area by visiting https://lnkd.in/eJTsb5Z5. #GivingTuesday is an important day for nonprofits. It's one where they not only receive a lot of donations (which are needed to continue to do the work they set out to do) but also a way to highlight how people in the local community can participate in their mission beyond financial support. Today is International Women's Day, where we do something we honestly ought to do every day: appreciate the wonderful women who keep this world turning. The holiday was originally intended in part to support equal suffrage for women, and though that right has been won, there are still many more roadblocks to overcome before true equality. It should be noted as well that the United Nations, which has done much to promote IWD, has themed each edition of it around different issues that women are working to overcome. This year's theme, "Invest in Women," focuses on addressing poverty-related challenges. In honor of that, we'd like to encourage donations to these important resources: * CARE, an organization that works in the United States and abroad, including Ukraine and Gaza, to help remedy issues of poverty and starvation through the empowerment of local women and providing resources; * Up With Women / Exponenti'elles, a Canadian charity focused on supporting and uplifting women and gender-diverse individuals through a unique and powerful coaching system. Thank you for supporting these charities, or whichever you choose to donate to on #iwd2024. As we move into a future of #womenleadingchange, we must do our best to remember the sacrifices of those who came before us, and to do our best to uplift one another.

I’m really in awe to see so many wealthy women organizing and chairing events for Hawai’i (*insert group*) for Harris. It got me thinking- how powerful it could be to also focus on increasing the involvement of diverse women in local politics right here in Hawai’i. In the lead-up to this year's primary elections, female candidates raised an average of $23,492, while men raised twice as much. The largest gap between male and female candidates was in individual contributions, where women raised only 23% of total individual donations. There’s a strong focus on advocating for a female president but it raises the question: how do you address the treatment of women in leadership positions within your own local community? Within your organization? High-profile advocacy is very demure, very classy… But I hope the commitment for progress isn’t just a trend/ cause du jour but something that sticks and drives lasting impact, both nationally and locally.

Today is International Women’s Day… it's a day for support, and a day for action. If you need ideas, read on... International Women’s Day is deeply personal. That may seem obvious, but the reason why is a bit broader. It is personal to me because it celebrates women’s history... 🌹 Women like my grandmothers who beautifully balanced strong careers and motherhood while serving as an example of what is possible.🌹 🏋♀️ Women like my aunts, cousins, and sister who tirelessly find ways to lift up the women around them through their words and actions. 🏋♀️ ✨ Women like my mother who instilled in me a big vision of who I could be, while celebrating who I was in the moment. ✨ It is personal to me because it encourages the future... for my daughters, for my nieces, and for all the young women who will one day change the world. Today, let’s turn the celebration into action. Here are three ideas: 1. Engage with Madam President Camp, the #kansascity non-profit building the next generation of female leaders through programs where middle school girls can be safe, celebrated, and limitless. Donate to the organization, encourage a girl to attend their summer camp series, or volunteer. https://lnkd.in/ghxmg4bS 2. Make a donation to the American Heart Association through my #goredforwomen #womanofimpact campaign. This donation supports life-saving research and education in the Kansas City community and beyond. https://lnkd.in/gEJUvfbj 3. Celebrate a woman today by recognizing something she has accomplished, overcome, or simply tried. Tell her you are proud of her, and tell her why. Tag someone in the comments you want to celebrate today. And tell them why. Together we can make this a day of impact and action. #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday2024 photo: Madam President Camp

Women's leadership is crucial in ending gender-based violence (GBV) globally. As we conclude this year's #16days of Activism against GBV, we reiterate our vision of a world where women leaders are plentiful and thriving—a world where violence is no longer the norm. 🙌🏻 Through education, community support, and mentorship, women leaders can drive inclusive policies for a better world. Let us enable women to take a seat at the table, and work together to redefine leadership for a fairer and safer future.
