The Chartered Institute of Housing's Gavin Smart underscores the urgency with a comprehensive 10-point strategy aimed at resolving the housing crisis, spearheaded by the need to expand access to affordable homes for all. Jamie Ratcliff from SNG emphasises the electorate's demand for clear-cut pledges on affordable housing solutions, which will be crucial in determining voter support. We're little more than a month away from a provincial election that will surely put housing and real estate issues on the front burner. As BCREA's Chief Economist Brendon Ogmundson noted in his most recent Market Intelligence report, the current pace of construction in BC won't be enough to meet provincial housing targets or meaningfully affect affordability. BC voters want to know how the next government will address the shortfall. To help break down the election for voters and REALTORS® alike, BCREA's Government Relations department will be producing tons of analysis on key housing issues, and making it all available on our new Election page. Advocacy and Government Relations are huge parts of our work, and there are few more important times for both than the days leading up to an election.

The race is on for our five-year National Housing Accord target! 🎯 Data dropped today for month ONE of council performance on development assessment. We’ve a steep hill to climb to get to 377,000 homes by 2029 – and these data bring focus ✅ With council elections looming, candidates should be in no doubt of priorities. Faster approvals mean more certainty for investors, and that means more homes sooner 🏘🏢 #HousingAffordability #HousingCrisis #Property #HousingTargets Katie Stevenson Andrew Parkinson Michelle Guido Anita Hugo GAICD Mike Zorbas Ellie Laing-Southwood GAICD Amy De Lore Ross Grove

Great to see Hunter councils performing well against the NSW Government’s 115-day average target for DA assessments. Achieving faster assessment time frames is in everyone’s interests and an essential piece of the housing puzzle if we are to meet the Housing Accord targets. The Property Council is continuing the conversation with industry and local government about how approvals can be accelerated even further, including discussions about funding, resourcing, pre lodgement consultation and potentially harnessing any new technologies to ensure DAs are assessment-ready when submitted.
