From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to reflect on and honor the vibrant cultures, histories, and incredible contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Whether through exploring the deep-rooted stories preserved in our national parks or recognizing the enduring legacies shared within our communities, this month gives us a special opportunity to appreciate just how deeply these communities have shaped the fabric of the U.S. For me, this month is about more than just history—it's about recognizing the diverse identities and stories of people who have enriched our nation with their resilience, creativity, and leadership. It’s a reminder that terms like Hispanic and Latino/a, Latine, or Latinx represent unique, personal identities: Hispanic relates to those from Spanish-speaking countries. Latino/a, Latine, or Latinx speaks to those from Latin America. Each term carries personal meaning, and the power to choose is important. Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of the many ways Latinas and Latinos have shaped our nation, from the American Revolution to today’s changemakers and community leaders. As our country grows more diverse, it’s critical that we celebrate these stories and make sure younger generations see their own possibilities reflected in history. I’m particularly inspired by the effort to build the National Museum of the American Latino to showcase and preserve the rich history of these communities for future generations. This museum will ensure that Latino history isn’t just a footnote, but an integral part of the American narrative. Check out the link in the comments to learn more! Key figures like César Chávez, who championed farmworkers’ rights, and Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice, remind us of the courage and resilience that have moved America forward. Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers, continues to inspire with her advocacy for workers’ rights, while modern figures like Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose musical talents and storytelling have transformed Broadway, show the limitless creativity and innovation within the Hispanic community. Today, Hispanic Americans contribute to all facets of society—from entrepreneurship and STEM to public service and education. At the heart of these contributions lies the value of family, community, and hard work, principles that deeply align with the American spirit. It's Native American History Month 🪶❤️ 🖤 💛 🤍 This month is a chance to reflect on the deep histories, resilience, and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples across this land. I’m especially proud to celebrate as a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. It’s also a vital reminder of the ongoing challenges Indigenous communities face and the importance of supporting authentic representation and voices. Here are a few things we can do as a nation to educate, support, and understand: 🔴 Educate Yourself on MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women): MMIW is a movement that highlights the disproportionate violence faced by Indigenous women and girls, as well as the lack of media coverage on their cases. Learning about this issue is one way we can all raise awareness and advocate for change. 🟡 Support Native Artists and Businesses: Consider shopping Native-made, not Native-inspired. This means looking for artisans, brands, and creators from Indigenous communities whose products reflect genuine cultural expression and expertise. This helps the revenue funnel back into the community. If you want suggestions - let me know! ⚫ Understand the Diversity of Indigenous Peoples: Native American communities are rich in diversity, with distinct languages, customs, and histories. The Lumbee, Diné, Ojibwe , and hundreds of other tribes each have unique stories and perspectives that shape the broader American narrative. Native American Heritage Month isn’t just a time to celebrate; it’s a call to action to be more aware, respectful, and supportive of the Indigenous communities around us. Let’s Keep the Momentum Going – Our Story Deserves to Be Heard It was inspiring to see so many Latino and Latina leaders show up for the City of Austin’s Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation reading last week. I know everyone’s schedules are packed, and there was a lot happening, but we should have had twice the turnout at City Hall. Next year, let’s make it a goal to double our attendance. Our community needs to be seen, heard, and represented. With our growing population, thriving businesses, rising educational achievements, and cultural influence, we have a powerful story—but all of it only matters if we actively engage in civic spaces and amplify our voices. We also need to show more support for the Hispanic events and activities happening around us throughout the year. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month was nothing short of amazing, filled with culture, vibrant events, music, food, and community. It felt like there were more celebrations than ever before, making it one of the most dynamic months I can remember! I tried to attend as many events as I could, but there were so many great experiences that I couldn’t get to them all. How about you? Did it feel the same way for you? To me, this year’s celebrations were among the most exciting and memorable yet! We’ve made a great start, Raza, but the energy we’ve built needs to carry on for the next 11 months. Now, more than ever, we must stay united and push forward. It’s time to take control of our own narrative. This is our story—and we should be the ones telling it.

Voices: Encourage friends and colleagues to share stories and experiences of their heritage. Pick a platform and promote inclusivity and equality by amplifying Hispanic issues. Consider supporting ALPFA Inc - Association of Latino Professionals For America, HACR - Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, HACE, and UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) Educate: Learn about diverse cultures within the Hispanic community. If you don’t speak Spanish, try learning basic phrases. Creators: Read literature written by Hispanic authors and support Hispanic films directed by or with a Hispanic lead. Get Involved: Volunteer with organizations that empower Hispanic communities and attend cultural events to support Hispanic arts, music, and performances. Hispanic-Owned Businesses: Support your local Hispanic-owned businesses by shopping, using their services, and enjoying their traditional Hispanic dishes.

Hispanic Heritage Month is coming to an end on our calendars, yet our appreciation of what Hispanic and Latino peoples offer the world should remain alive and well beyond the past 30 days.   Latin American visionaries are the reason why the "Global" aspect of the B Global Network has surged to become what it is today.
