We take so many things for granted. It's easy to forget in your day-to-day life. We live in-between the morning cups of coffee, the afternoon work, or our evening routines. In some ways, those individuals that gave it all, would have it just that way... FREE Free to live our lives in peace, Free to live in the pursuit of happiness, Free to build and grow and live in what is the most prosperous nation in the world. But we must never forget the cost of liberty and what it takes to get here. Today is June 6, and today we remember D-DAY. Today we remember all those individuals that served and made the ultimate sacrifice so that future generations in the United States and abroad could have a brighter future. Today we remember #freedomisntfree #dday #veterans
Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944. On that day, around 160,000 American and Allied troops carried out the largest combined land, air, and sea invasion in military history. By the end of the Normandy landings, approximately 10,000 soldiers had been killed, wounded, or were missing, including 6,603 Americans, 2,700 British, and 946 Canadians. These valiant men served as liberators, fighting to uphold the sacred principles of democracy and freedom. Their courage and sacrifice on the beaches of Normandy paved the way for the ultimate victory in Europe, ending the scourge of Nazi tyranny. With each passing year, the ranks of World War II veterans grow thinner, yet their spirit lives on. Today, we solemnly remember and honor all those individuals of exceptional valor and courage who served and made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the liberties we cherish today. Their legacy serves as a reminder of the high price of freedom and the unwavering commitment required to preserve it. We owe an immense debt to these heroes, whose selfless actions secured a brighter future for generations to come. #veterans #dday #supportourtroops #landofthefree #neverforget

Read about the crazy crew of a German U-Boat from a memoir found 70 years later. Details too explicit to discuss here: See it at: https://lnkd.in/gnr8BVPC (#submarine, #uBoat, #GermanNavy, #WWII, #explicit, #crazy, #weird, #sailors)

Today, June 6, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of the turning point and ultimate defeat of the Third Reich and Axis powers by Allied forces in WWII’s European theatre. Though some of the fiercest and bloodiest battles were fought during and after the invasion, D-Day marks the beginning of the end for WWII. It seems that so much time has passed that we have collectively forgotten, or minimized, the true importance and impact of this period. The shear faith and force of will displayed by the soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Allied force, a great many who never returned and lie in cemeteries across Normandy, is almost unfathomable today. Though not recognized as a “national holiday” or given a special celebratory month, June 6, D-Day, should always be a day that America recalls not just the sacrifice, but the national will and fortitude to do what is right and stand for the principals instilled by our founders, who knew well the delicate yet strong nature of the nation they brought to life. Pray, then, for an awakening and discovery by our current generations of the strength provided by God to do what is right, what is holy and what is required of us. That at this critical moment in our history, as has been the case over the life of this nation, we respond as other, greater generations have, with strength, moral clarity, unity and faith. #followpursuereach

Challenging Perspectives on Veterans Day and Military Service As we approach Veterans Day, I find myself reflecting on how we view military service and the concept of “glorifying” those who serve. Around the world, soldiers are often cast as heroes, symbols of courage and sacrifice. Yet, there’s another side we rarely discuss: what it means to send young people into wars that may not serve clear moral or legal purposes, where they risk—and often lose—their lives for interests that can be difficult to justify. In the U.S., the way we honor veterans can sometimes feel like a cultural ritual designed to shield us from confronting the ethical and political questions around these conflicts. Glorification can provide comfort to families, yet is it not also a way to obscure the darker reality of how these wars impact people and societies across the globe? My question is: how can we genuinely support veterans while also promoting a conversation around the policies that send them into harm’s way? What does meaningful honor and support look like when we view it through a lens of responsibility and accountability? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this complex topic.

On bended knee this morning for our surviving World War ll Veterans… According to recent data from the National WWII Museum, as of 2023, only a small number of World War II veterans are centenarians and still alive, with estimates placing the number around a few thousand; this is due to the rapidly dwindling population of WWII veterans, with most being in their late 90s or older. Key points to remember: Less than 1% still alive: Only a tiny percentage of the 16 million Americans who served in WWII are still alive today. Median age is high: Most surviving WWII veterans are now in their late 90s. Centenarian veterans: While not a large number, there are a few thousand WWII veterans who have reached the age of 100.
