Microsoft has just announced a new Applied Skill Credential for Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). AD DS is now more than 24 years old and is utterly ubiquitous in organizations using Microsoft technology. Even the widespread adoption of Entra ID (formerly known as Azure Active Directory) to support Microsoft 365 and other cloud services has not yet killed good old Active Directory. There are just so many apps and infrastructure that continue to depend on AD DS. AD DS also continues to be a popular target for cyber-attackers, as it usually holds sensitive credentials that would allow attackers to get to the valuable and sensitive data and infrastructure. For all these reasons, knowledge of AD DS administration and security remains a critical skill for IT pros. As Microsoft started emphasizing their cloud products for training and certification, the older certs that covered AD DS eventually lapsed, leaving a gap. There was no clear method for organizations to identify individuals who were qualified to administer AD DS environments. Now, for the first time in several years, there is an official Microsoft credential for AD DS administrators. This is one of the newer Applied Skill credentials, which test the candidate's ability to perform practical tasks in a simulated environment, as opposed to traditional certification exams that were more theoretical. The Applied Skill credentials are also free and can be done from anywhere. For more information, read the blog post or watch the video (both linked below). The blog post lists the skills assessed and includes links to the learning path to prepare for the assessment. https://lnkd.in/grdkjHkW

Today I earned my "#Manage_users, #licenses, #guests, and #contacts in #Microsoft_365" badge! In this module, I examined the different user identities supported by #Microsoft_365, namely: #Cloud_identities, #Synchronized_identities, and #Federated_identities. I learned that i can either maintain identities in #Microsoft_365, or i can #integrate_identities with our on-premises #Active_Directory. Determining the identity model that best meets our company business requirements is essential to successfully deploying #Microsoft_365. This module then provided instruction on how to manage #user_accounts and #licenses in #Microsoft_365. I learned how to #create and #manage #user_accounts, assign #Microsoft_365 #licenses to #users, and #recover_deleted_user_accounts. Assigning appropriate #licenses to our #organization’s_users enables them to use #Microsoft_365_services such as #Microsoft_Outlook and #Microsoft_SharePoint_Online.
