At #AWSReInvent, Matt Garman, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), reflected on the evolution of Graviton and AWS’ decision to build on Arm’s fast, powerful cores. ⏩ The rest is history. In the last 2 years, AWS has seen more than 50% of new CPU capacity use Arm-based AWS Graviton processors. With customers like Pinterest realizing 47% cost savings and a 62% reduction in carbon emissions when switching to Graviton, it’s clear why. With Graviton4, AWS customers can build on the industry’s most power-efficient and highest-performing compute platform to innovate for what's next in the age of AI. 📃 See how we're supporting this in our blog: https://okt.to/I4bMv9 🎥 Catch the keynote: https://okt.to/FwRXVA

AWS roars back to life! 🦁 Peter DeSantis' re:Invent keynote on Monday night felt like a return to AWS’s roots in infrastructure engineering, showcasing innovation across their entire stack. One standout for me? The R&D and attention to detail behind 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦 2. AWS has tackled a critical challenge: addressing the power spikes between idle and load in their new silicon. This level of engineering precision demonstrates the big hyperscaler is fighting hard to show both performance, and efficiency. I suspect I’ll be writing an article about re:Invent 2024 🤓 My top takeaways from the keynote: 1️⃣ 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 AWS is redefining cloud infrastructure, investing heavily at every level: • Custom silicon like Graviton and Trainium. • Game-changers like the Nitro System, which boosts performance, security, and scalability. 2️⃣ 𝐀𝐈-𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 AI at scale needs specialized infrastructure, and AWS delivers: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦 2• offers 20 petaFLOPs of compute for massive models. • NeuronLink clusters Trainium servers into "Ultra Servers," driving breakthroughs in trillion-parameter models. 3️⃣ 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 By decoupling compute and storage, AWS improves scalability and resilience: • Nitro cards in storage systems allow independent scaling and streamlined maintenance. 4️⃣ 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐈 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 Training AI models is a scale-up challenge, not scale-out. AWS tackles this with: • Advanced data parallelism techniques. • Project Rainier, leveraging Trainium 2 for faster, cost-effective model training. 5️⃣ 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 Every innovation at AWS is grounded in customer needs: • Faster hardware delivery via automated manufacturing. • Simpler, more reliable networking for AI workloads. • Enhanced inference performance for models like Llama and Claude. At first blush, AWS are building NVIDIA-like systems (silicon, server, network), Apple (NeuroLink interconnect aka Apple Ultra silicon) and SpaceX-like (material/process elimination and automation) engineering, plus much more! Any price reductions? 😒 https://lnkd.in/gP8hs-fh
