This is a great example of what can be accomplished when we are supported as an industry by the powers that be.
Now with that being said, there is much catching up to do for all those new US manufacturers to obtain what Mission Solar (the Oldest US Manufacturer) has accomplished in its 10 YEARS of US manufacturing. An ASTOUNDING 99.7% production efficiency and .004% RMA claims (1 in 25,000 units). This is the gold standard and why when working with Mission Modules you truly get the best in class most robust modules available.
Solar module manufacturing has quadrupled since the Inflation Reduction Act passed 2 years ago.
At RE+, The White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi spoke about the economic power of American solar manufacturing.
SEIA is proud to celebrate #NationalCleanEnergyWeek, #ClimateWeekNYC and all the ways communities are benefitting from clean, reliable #solar energy.
We are pleased to announce the publication of our newest case study on the industrial decarbonization project undertaken by RTC Solutions Provider Skyven Technologies, an Energy-as-a-Service company with a mission to decarbonize industrial process heat, and California Dairies, Inc., the largest member-owned milk marketing and processing cooperative in California.
CDI and Skyven completed a total of six decarbonization projects across CDI’s two largest facilities in 2023. The projects deployed three renewable thermal technologies: solar thermal systems, smart steam traps, and boiler heat recovery systems. Skyven and CDI expect the projects to avoid approximately 7,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions and over 110,000 MMBtu of natural gas consumption each year. These results support CDI’s goals to achieve a 30% reduction in direct and supply chain greenhouse gases by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

Solar PV technology has consistently exceeded expectations in recent years. With rapidly decreasing costs and accelerated adoption, solar photovoltaics are becoming a significant player in the transition to renewable energy. The benefits of PV in the use phase are clear to LCA sustainability professionals and LCA practitioners. However, while the benefits of solar are clear, the environmental footprint of manufacturing PV modules presents essential challenges that need to be addressed.
Our latest whitepaper, authored by Jordan Lindsay, Sahin Alacacayir, Phoebe Whattoff, Him Shun Yu, Rowan Halkes and designed by Zainab Rehman dives into the environmental sensitivities of solar PVs and their role in decarbonisation.
As solar energy becomes increasingly crucial in the global transition to renewable power, understanding and mitigating the environmental impact of PV manufacturing is vital. In this whitepaper, we explore:
▶️ The carbon footprint of solar PV manufacturing, focusing on the energy-intensive purification of silicon.
▶️ Key climate change hotspots identified through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
▶️ Strategies that solar PV manufacturers can adopt to reduce their environmental impacts.
Our findings reveal that production choices, such as the source of electricity used during silicon purification, can significantly affect the overall carbon footprint of solar PV modules. With solar set to play a central role in our energy future, these insights are essential for manufacturers striving to meet regulatory, business and consumer demands .
