Tyler Polich and Jessica Jimenez Keenan launched their Los Angeles–based design practice, Years, in 2022 with impeccable professional pedigrees. Polich’s résumé includes stints at the AD100 firms The Archers, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, while Jimenez Keenan cut her teeth at Elizabeth Roberts Architects and Studio Shamshiri (also AD100 stalwarts). Considering their deep immersion in design history and the wealth of artful, unexpected sources they reference, it’s no surprise that the partners describe their approach in poetic terms: “Years is a design studio in service to possibility, how rooms and buildings might cradle the experiences of people in them yet stay attuned—and permeable—to climate, light, whims, life. We believe that design has the potential to reach beyond the rational, the perfect photograph, winningly out of register with the status quo.” Following their debut with a sensational house in Costa Rica (AD, May 2024), Polich and Jimenez Keenan are currently finishing a gut renovation of a Brooklyn town house, a midcentury remodel in LA, and a barn conversion in Hopewell, New Jersey. 1763 SPATIAL DESIGN of PUBLIC PLACES -Gautam Shah https://lnkd.in/d8uNAWhm Public places are of THREE basic types: one, Naturally evolved, 2, Remastered or redefined with buildings or landscape features, and 3, Freshly planned with some concept. Public spaces, however need to offer a lot more moment to moment variegated experiences. The changes offered by, movement illumination, shadows, occupation of space sections by people for different activities, changing perception of objects, changing facade colours and textures, compositions involving non-standard angles, contouring elements like level change, steps and ramps, all offer better sensorial remembrances.

In Japanese thinking there is no built or natural environment – just nature. Prior to beginning this project, our client, the architect, and the team visited the Shofuso house in Philadelphia to study and learn more about traditional Japanese architecture and building materials and techniques. Natural elements are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, where architectural practice has always been to work in harmony with the natural surroundings. Buildings are built around trees, in trees, and as trees. In Japanese thinking there is no built or natural environment – just nature. We are Builders. We are Craftsmen. We have high standards and an appreciation for attention to detail. We build modern custom homes that reflect many architectural influences. In addition to the art of the craft, we practice and believe in the art of collaboration. When the project is complete, we know we have delivered a beautiful combination of fine craftsmanship defined by an aesthetic sensibility that comes from practice and skill. Where design meets art, magic happens. Reddymade, Charlap Hyman and Herrero, and Bocci are painting our world with bold strokes, blending architecture, interiors, and public spaces into a vivid tapestry of modern creativity. Their work transcends traditional boundaries, crafting experiences that are as immersive as they are expressive. It’s this fearless crossing of disciplines that reminds us, in art and design, there are no limits—only infinite possibilities. Observing their work, I'm reminded that to create spaces people love, one must not just design for the eye, but for the soul. This is what we aim for with The Experience Group. We don’t just build spaces, we build experiences. I'm excited to share my final project from last semester's Residential Studio class where we took on the challenge of restoring a family split-level home dating back to 1963 that had been generically updated in the 90s. It evolved into my favorite project to date, and I would love to do work like this in the future! The goal was to pay homage to the home and neighborhood's rich history while seamlessly blending midcentury charm with contemporary flair. My concept was simple yet profound: to frame each room as a work of art. By introducing bold beams and columns, I transformed the space into a captivating gallery, accentuating the significance of family memories. Despite structural limitations, I embraced the obstacle by incorporating additional beams to delineate areas. This design isn't just about aesthetics; it's about crafting a timeless sanctuary where cherished memories unfold. As the family grows and evolves, this home will serve as a testament to their journey and the enduring power of design. TLDR: The final renderings begin on page 30 ✨ #DesignJourney #ResidentialDesign #MidcenturyModern #DesignInnovation #InteriorArchitecture

This architectural design is distinguished by its bold, sculptural forms that evoke the rhythmic patterns of natural elements. Its distinctive feature is the set of intertwined, circular structures that almost resemble the organic forms of shells or the unfurling of fern fronds. This creates a sense of continuity and flow, as each level seamlessly spirals into the next, which is both visually striking and structurally innovative. The use of reflective materials and strategic lighting further emphasizes the fluidity of the design, making the building appear to be an intrinsic part of the water landscape. This reflective interplay between structure and light adds a dynamic and ephemeral quality to the architecture. Furthermore, the integration of nature with the building — through water features, rock formations, and the interplay of light and shadow — gives the impression that the structure has not been imposed upon the landscape but has grown organically from it. The transparent facades offer expansive views while the overlapping curves provide privacy and shade, redefining the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. The design is unique in its ambition to be both a functional living space and an immersive piece of landscape art.

Inclusive design is in the details. Details that, without an accessible mindset, may be overlooked – like the door knobs and door handles on a project. When designing #inclusive spaces, we take a step back and consider the impact a choice that might seem inconsequential to some has on everyone, regardless of ability. These simple yet beautiful Flow Bow handles are easy to grip and pull, making them an easy choice for our 139 Millers project 🤝 #blurarchitecture #melbournearchitecture #architecturephotography #melbournearchitects #accessibledesign #inclusivedesign

The uniqueness of this design is embodied in its futuristic approach, playing with asymmetry and unconventional crystalline structures that seem to defy gravity. The geometric shapes, particularly the diamond-like central feature, are both visually arresting and structurally innovative. This complexity of form is softened by the integration of green spaces within the terraces, creating a sense of a living building. The use of concrete and glass is masterful, juxtaposing transparency with the raw, textured surface of the concrete, which also speaks to a brutalist influence. The building's reflection in the tranquil water surface amplifies its impact, adding to the sense of stillness and symmetry in the overall composition. This design stands out for its visionary qualities, merging form and function in a manner that is both artistic and habitable, presenting a new paradigm in architectural design.

The rugged Arizona terrain holds its secrets, but just like these rocks that have stood firm for centuries, we root our designs in a deep understanding of the land. At Nanke, our architecture & design division draws inspiration from this landscape to conceptualize structures that respect and enhance the natural environment. Like seasoned farmers who understand the land, the Nanke team possesses a legacy of expertise in Arizona's elements, topographic shifts, variable sun exposure, and diverse soil types. This knowledge informs how we design and construct, ensuring we tailor each project to the unique characteristics of the land to balance nature’s beauty with human craftsmanship. Our vision at Nanke comes from a simple yet profound principle: to envision the effortless integration of structures into their environments, as if someone naturally placed them there on the lot from above. This philosophy brings harmony to the elements inherent in each real estate lot, the surrounding views, and the interplay between exterior and interior design features that work together to complement the overall aesthetic. With over 75 years of experience, including creating one of Sedona’s first homes, Nanke stands as a leader in luxury design and construction. Quality, innovation, and a sincere respect for the land qualify our legacy, a tradition that sets us apart in the industry and earns the trust of our clients. As a 3D visualizer, I’m always inspired by the challenge of blending nature with modern architecture. This project was a perfect opportunity to do just that. Imagine waking up to the sight of towering trees, with sunlight gently filtering through the leaves, casting soft shadows on a contemporary home nestled in the midst of it all. This visualization captures the essence of serenity and modern living, where the minimalist design of the house harmonizes with the lush, natural surroundings. Creating this 3D render was more than just a technical task; it was about telling a story—a story of balance between the simplicity of modern design and the untamed beauty of nature. The clean lines and large glass windows invite the outdoors in, making the home feel like a part of the forest itself. The journey of this project reminded me of why I love what I do. It’s not just about creating beautiful images; it’s about bringing dreams to life, one render at a time. What do you think of this blend of nature and modern design? Would you love to live in a place like this? Let me know your thoughts! #3DVisualization #Architecture #ModernDesign #NatureInspired #DesignInspiration #3DRendering
