Let's speak about #DesignFutures "The post-industrial society requires a new type of designer: a designer who thinks not only in forms that appeal to the senses but in complex contexts of cognition—the thinking [designer]. This paradigm shift places cognition instead of aesthetics at the heart of design . . . . (Romero-Tejedor 2007, 21–22,) In the world of design futures, combining semiotics and biosemiotics is key to creating meaningful and sustainable innovations. Semiotics helps us understand signs and symbols in culture, making sure our designs connect with people on a deeper level. Biosemiotics takes this further by looking at how living things communicate and interact, offering insights from nature. Together, these fields help design futures by predicting and shaping upcoming trends and technologies. This ensures our designs are not only new and exciting but also environmentally friendly and culturally appropriate, creating a future where human creativity is guided by both cultural and natural wisdom. Want to know more about how to create design futures and why it's crucial for companies to start now? Feel free to reach out! Let's discuss how this approach can drive innovation and sustainability in your organization. #DesignFutures #Semiotics #Biosemiotics #Innovation #Sustainability #FutureThinking #CulturalRelevance #Biomimicry #BusinessGrowth

👐 Yesterday we welcomed some 325 new design students to our faculty. Over the coming five years you will learn to tackle challenges in the realms of health, sustainability, mobility, inclusivity and beyond from a design perspective. Designing new products, services or systems for these worldwide issues may seem daunting at times, but not to worry! Researchers Rebecca Price and Mieke van der Bijl-Brouwer developed 10 principles to forge designers’ resilience. Principles such as: - Find purpose by embracing the journey - Decisively go beyond your comfort zone - Be authentic to your identity and person Rebecca Price: “Design is about sharing, co-creating. If you don't share your unfinished, unpolished work, it can be detrimental to your design process.” Discover everything there is to know about this research and its 10 principles: https://lnkd.in/e-u6N7hR 🙌 We wish all our design students and researchers a fantastic year! #designthinking

In his new article published via Elsevier, Kipum Lee, PhD, VP of Enterprise Strategy & Innovation at University Hospitals and VP at UH Ventures argues that great service design and user experience projects are not enough to make lasting impact in systems. There is a different kind of design that is required for innovation and transformation in organizations. Institutional issues that involve the (re)arrangement of norms and social rules; the establishment (or reconfiguration) of power, privilege, and authority; the development of particular practices, habits, and practices; and the enactment of values, principles and myths across space and time are vital to producing durable human systems. Concretely, he uses the example at UH where caregivers and leaders are in the process of using the award-winning Cutler Center for Men program (3rd order design) as a model to amplify customer experience across the system (4th order design). I’ve really enjoyed reading and receiving different perspectives on my previous questions, which has encouraged me to share more of my thoughts with you. As I struggle to accept the rapid acceleration of technology without ethical considerations, I find myself wondering if I’ll fall behind due to my reluctance to fully embrace this technology and the increasing reliance on software to think and find solutions for us. If I want to be part of a collective that helps kids find and design safe spaces to connect with nature, nurture their inner creativity, and sense of home how crucial is it to incorporate technology into those spaces? Whether in the spaces themselves or the structure and approach of the curriculum itself. Would disconnecting from technology leave them unprepared for the realities of a rapidly evolving world, or would it instead empower them to create and design new systems that the world desperately needs? I think balance is always key - and as I benefit from some of the technology provided, I still find myself falling behind in comparison the vast majority of people around me. What would balance look like? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts :) #technology #design #architecture #designtoconnect #ethicalmerrit #perspectives #opinions #aitechnology #healingcenters #creativity #opinions #Sustainability #construction #systemchange

💬 What do #designers do? Research found that single labels might be confusing or too general. Therefore, below explainer summary and detailed research paper suggest five clusters to include in your verbal and written communication: 👁️🗨️ From: input 🎁 Of: output ✅ For: criteria 🛠️ By: method 💼 In: setting Tip: combine your input of above five clusters into one compelling long label that only you own! 💪 #designcompany #creativebusiness #designindustry #pitch #USP #valueofdesign #creativecompany
Design researchers Pieter Jan Stappers, Froukje Sleeswijk Visser and Annemiek van Boeijen developed a framework for designers to explain their work in a meaningful way. Because there are a lot of design labels out there. Social design. Service design. Experience design... the researchers stopped counting at 177 labels. But the labels make sense. They are a way for designers to indicate what they do, how they do it and what they value. 👉 Explore their research, and try it out for yourself: https://edu.nl/qc7wk TU Delft | Industrial Design Engineering #university #technology #innovation #science #research #design #designers #engineering #labels
