One of the absolute joys of my work is seeing young people on our programmes set out on their new careers with our partners. And this week, Mars welcomed their first cohort of apprentices from their partnership with Visionpath!
In 2023 we launched Building Bright Futures, a new early careers programme unlocking exciting apprenticeships at Mars Wrigley in Slough, for school leavers from diverse backgrounds. The programme has seen us:
🏫 Deliver workshops in schools connecting with hundreds of Year 13s to help them learn about Mars and see their future in one of their apprenticeships.
💡Bring students into interactive Insight & Assessment days to give them hands-on experience of life at Mars and showcase their skills.
💬 Connected students with over 30 Mars mentors, delivering over 200 hours of mentoring to support students’ career development, plus other experiences to build skills for their future career.
This week, the programme culminated in 13 apprentices joining Mars in roles like engineering, operations, sales, marketing and finance🎉🎉🎉
Having worked closely with Mars on this programme I know the apprentices are joining a company with a great culture and an environment where they’ll learn and thrive. Definitely bright futures ahead (pun entirely intended).
And watch this space as we launch our 2024-25 Building Bright Futures programme, more great things to come 🚀

🌟 Apprentice Tip of the Week: Set Clear Goals 🌟
We're excited to share our latest tip for apprentices on their journey to success. This week, we're focusing on the importance of setting clear goals.
🔹 Why Set Clear Goals? Clear goals give direction and purpose. They help you outline your short-term and long-term objectives, keeping you motivated and focused.
56 students, 28 apprentices, and three hands-on projects = a day filled with learning and fun for the next generation!
We’re thrilled to support and mentor these bright minds, helping shape the future of the industry. Our Future Day event is always a highlight, providing valuable experiences and real-world skills.
Check out the video to hear directly from the students about what they learned and from our colleagues on the importance of taking part in such initiatives.
As we navigate the ever-evolving job market, one thing remains clear: internships are a vital stepping stone for young professionals. At ALJ Egypt, we recognize the significance of nurturing young talent through structured internship programs. Our initiatives are not just about filling roles; they are designed to empower future leaders by providing them with hands-on experience, mentorship, and a deeper understanding of their chosen fields.

I had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the GlobalMindED conference this week GlobalMindED is a dynamic and inclusive community focused on taking practical steps to develop a diverse talent pipeline for minority learners and job seekers. This organization unites influential figures from education, business, government, and non-profits, all with a shared commitment to expanding access and opportunities for first-generation college students, low-income or underrepresented, in educational and career settings.
What made this annual event so unique?
▫ 73% of our speakers come from diverse backgrounds.
▫ Most attendees are diverse leaders and allies who advocate for inclusive leadership.
▫ Our audiences come from all backgrounds and bring an equity lens.
▫ Around 20% of our attendees are first-generation and diverse students.
▫ GlobalMindED ensures student representation by featuring them on the majority of panels.
▫ The Industry Marketplace/Career Exploration provides businesses with opportunities to connect with diverse talent for apprenticeships, internships, and job placements.
▫ The conference also hosts an Inclusive Leader Awards dinner, which celebrates DEI luminaries and serves as a platform for recognizing role models in the industry.
